General Question, any of you guys use LED rear lights

Just wondering if they would pass an MOT, increase me getting pulled by PC PLod, most importantly increase the chance that the driver coming behind me shaking his head to his music will actually see me stopping or turning.

Opinions please guys and girls.

Is the one on your bike a LED Brake only or with Turn Signal lights aswell ?

What do you think of them. Easy to see etc.

It's the one with the indicators built in.

I've had no complaints from those behind me about not seeing it flashing, so can't comment further on that. It flashes the same as any other indicator.

Looks cool, did you get yours from Ebay or an online shop ?

I was thinking about leaving my original indicators on along with Clear lenses and orange bulbs, but yours does look tidy without them

I've got LED lights on my bike, passed an MOT no problem, they are quite bright especially in the dark, more so than normal lights IMO.

At work so can't link a picture but I'm sure I've shown a picture of them in the General Bike pics section.

They are quite different to normal LED style light clusters, still to see another bike with the same style lights.

I had those on my K4 gixer, bought from the seller you have linked to. I never had a problem with getting pulled, although I have no idea about MOT status as it didn't need one.

The indicator is hard to see in daylight, nowhere near as bright as OEM, particularly when the brake light is illuminated to.

They all look nice but the indicators can be a bit ambigious from a distance, especially the single-lens units like the one in the top picture.

I was coming up to a juntion the other day and a guy had these lights on. I could see he was indicating but it was only until I got up his arse I was able to determine where he was going.

I expect the average cager could become equally confused.

Speaking as a traffic officer I would not use them on my own bike and they will increase your chances of being stopped by police. You will get away with having them on but then you run the risk of having exhaust checked etc....

Ah, an answer from both sides of the law, Hi mate, so with these lights on there is an increased chance of getting pulled, however if the cans etc are legal will that be ok, or are these lights illegal ?

Its the custom versions might be a problem rather than the fact they're LEDs - Suzuki SVs for example have two rows of LEDs as standard - not much chance of losing your light from a blown bulb.

Mark, those lights are a grey area and worst case would be a vehicle defect report which would mean you having to get your bike in effect MOT'd again, but yes if your can, tax, insurance and drivers lic were all in order you would be on your way.

It comes down to personal choice whether you buy them but the fact that the ebay seller says he is unsure whether they are road legal suggests that the packaging says "not for road use"

LED brake lights are actually safer. They come on something like 0.2 of a second quicker than a filament bulb because they don't require 'warm up' time.

At 70mph, you cover six metres in that time.

So, fitting an LED brake light decreases the stopping distance of the vehicle behind you on the motorway by six metres.

^^^ Oh, a scientific answer!

Mines came with the bike and although they are not to everyones taste I quite like them now, they are quite bright in a way a photo really can't replicate.

Got mine off ProjectR for my ZXR250. My main concern was that it wasn't seen and the colour distinction between the red and the amber was very vague. Without the load resistors, or just one of them in, they would flash rapidly... not having them funnily enough made them flash really slowly! Just a point - if you fancy fitting them at the rear, i'd get LED fronts as well and chaging the flasher relay rather than having to dick about with load resistors and splicing them onto the reel. The ones i were given were wank and the wire came loose!

Nevertheless, the brake lights were ultra bright, could be seen for miles and as stinkwheel says, the lack of a filament means they react faster.

I've just got a stock rear lens but retrofitted 380 type LED bayonette bulbs to the end to give the same brightness and reaction. Not a bad investment and it's all for safety.
