Our local supermarket is Sainsburys, there really isn't any other choice. So we're spending the money there anyway.

Jon and I mostly both fill up at BP garages because they happen to be convenient.

In January we had a crate of lovely expensive wine delivered for free Very Happy

I use Sainsbury's for shopping & fuel, or BP for fuel. Every few months I use the nectar points to pay for the shopping, plus they send me coupons which gives me money off the stuff I buy frequently, mostly cat food and soup, it seems Smile

It works - I got cinema tickets and spent the rest in Argos. Now I don't shop at Sainsbury's anymore (found a local market) so I'm not collecting. But as far as these things go, it's not a scam. Take the usual precautions regarding your address/email etc and you'll be fine.

We save our Nectar points for Christmas - Then buy the Christmas shopping and some gifts with it - helps lighten the load around that time Mr. Green

I have a nectar card as we used to shop at Sainsburys as it was within walking distance, but as we have a car now we go to Tescos, so i am collecting Clubcard points, which I feel get you more.

We had £1000 nectar points and saved £3 off our shopping yesterday at Sainsburys.

Well I would do, but seeing as how when I filled in my Nectar Card (or was it my Tesco Card?) ... the confirmation letter came back addressed to Jgneeb instead of Jennifer ... I'm sort of reluctant to really bother. I can't be arsed with writing back to correct it, and I think I registered with them three addresses ago.

I think I have some of those Tesco key tag things too, but at the minute I never really go often enough to clock up points.

And I really only use Sainsburys online to have stuff delivered for work, saves me lugging bags up the stairs all the time, I make the Sainsburys man do it Mr. Green

Got a Nectar card when I used to use Sainsbury's as well as the BP garage across the road, EDF energy....etc.

Got a Tesco club card as well as now use, you guessed it, Tesco's.

Apart from the money off vouchers that come in the post never really used the gained number of points I have for a special something or pressie. Not a bad idea for some cheap chrimbo pressies Laughing

Got one years ago when I was out seeing customers every day, racking up loads of miles and using it at petrol stations. Still use it now.

I've had several hundred pounds worth of Argos stuff from the points, so yes, it is a good thing and takes no effort.

I heard they are changing this so that you only recieve a telegram at 110 years old as too many people are turning 100 these days for the Queen to cope.

Unlucky. Wink Laughing

Personally I think loyalty cards suck. You never really get things free imo, just a bit of what you originally pay comes back to you. They cause delays at checkouts and offer far more 'benefit' to the the retailer than the customer. Scam? Yeah I recon, but as they are so widely in use you loose out if you don't use one.

Sainsburys near here seem to have also gone down the route of packing your stuff unless you ask them not too, which is annoying as I mainly don't use carrier bags and have full use of both my arms.

I used to work for Sainsbury’s, they annoy me. I guess I can see the upside of the cards in that people feel happier and the supermarkets get market research possibly resulting in them providing better service and better product range/availability. But at the end of the day queuing for longer while the three people in front of me fumble for their loyalty cards is annoying on a day to day basis. Very Happy

but that's just because people are stupid.

1. While queueing get the nectar and Maestro cards out and into an easily accessible pocket
2. Start bagging your groceries as they are scanned
3. When you are given a total, hand over the cards together and keep bagging
4. Take your nectar card and place it in the pocket
5. Enter PIN
6. Keep bagging
7. Remove card, put in pocket, pick up bags and bid farewell

That's a mighty small possibility in my experience. Over the last couple of years the range they supply (at least in the 4 ish I've visited on a regualr basis) has been steadily getting, not only smaller, but also less reliable. I swear they must be using my data to find out what lines to drop /sigh

On the loyalty card question I do have a Nectar card but that's it, no other loyalty cards of that ilk and, in all honesty, I'm not overly happy about the Nectar anymore either (although when they changed it away from the horrid orange colour I was happier > <). When I first got the card it was for Sainsbury's purchases only but the way they (and other similar schemes) are spreading through the consumer world concerns me. What can I say... I'm paranoid and I've read 'Jennifer Government' > <

I've got serveral in different names along with my passports, a tip I got from the Bourne Identity to keep myself "off the grid". Shifty

Thinking about it, I'm not sure if my Iraqi passport will be as shrewd a purchase as I first thought. Confused

I picked the last option. Not that I'm paranoid, Shocked I prefer to keep myself to myself. I never do enough shopping being as I am, on my own. I suppose if you have a family and cars and stuff its worth doing though.

I have a deep mistrust of any database, its only a matter of time before they're all link or amalgamated into one honking great big humming subterrainean super computer that'll track our every move, purchase and breath.

You buy a scotch pie on Tuesday, you get a government safety leaflet in the post on Wednesday about how you're costing the NHS money with your fatty ways... You scoff now but just you wait and see... Cool

Yes, and that is no great secret, I'm sure the supermarkets could have forseen the stupidity of their customers when they introduced these schemes. Your seven steps to happy shopping may come in use for some people, but as you say people are stupid and those that can not figure it out for themselves will probably not understand what you are on about anyway.

I do always try to start bagging my stuff, but at the sainsbury's near me the stuff is scanned and goes straight in the bag, unless I snatch the item from the operator, the only way is to specifcally ask them not to.
