PostPosted: 17:12 - 12 Jun 2007    Post subject: Out Of My Depth ???? Reply with quote

well , my previous post in this section was me asking for advice on which bike to choose - SRAD or CBRF . Since then i've looked at many bikes and turned them all down - they were all crap - too old / been down the road / need parts / been ragged etc..

I was ready to give up , thinking i'd find nothing for my 2 grand when by chance i stumbled across an ad for a bike for sale - 35 miles away , but hey it was a nice night for a drive.

Me and my mate went up after a few pints and the moment the fella opened his garage i knew that bike was for me - it's in immaculate condition throughout - new renthal chain & sprockets , new macadam tyres , 6 month old full stainless micron system with viper can etc..

Also comes with paddock stands , race fairings ( front ) , bike cover , original exhaust and loads of other odds and sods - the bloke selling it was fairly old and admitted to us that he just can't ride it anymore . He's the second owner from new and the bike is a 97 (p) reg.

Now after all that..............
My question is - am i out of my depth ? - the previous bike i rode to this ( post DAS ) was a VFR400 - this is a ZX9R - a full 500cc's more power.
My insurance quote is £300.28 tpft but after i add legal cover and breakdown it's £410 which doesn't seem too bad to me .

By the way the bike cost me £1300 - he wanted £1495 but a bit of haggling and i think i've walked away with a real bargain !

Any thoughts or advice on this bike ???

You bought the bike, so it doesn't really matter now.
Don't listen to what anyone else has to say on here—go ride it and find out.

£410 on a ZX9R! Shocked That's very cheap, where was that from?

Sounds like a very good buy to me, but it's a lot of power so don't hop on and expect it to be as forgiving as the VFR.

Race fairing doesn't sound inspiring! Nice bike, and if you got it for how much you wanted to pay, then all is good!

Take it easy and learn how to handle the bike and you will be fine. Dont try to ride it fast straight away or you will surely come a cropper. Sounds like you got a bargain.

Great bike. Very easy to ride, but they can be a pain in the arse to set off from the lights with as stock they have no power below 3K. Fit a 4 degree ignition advancer and it will transform the low down power (about £50).

I'm guessing at that age its a B2, so will be quite heavy, but they still have a hell of a turn of power when required, and theyre comfy enough to ride all day long. Its a more practical superbike compared to the more track based R1's etc.

Just go easy with and dont dial all the power in straight away and you should be fine.
