I know Honda manufactured a car with a 750cc engine once and that moved pretty fast.

I picked up one of my dad's Mini magazines yesterday and some fool had put a Super Blackbird engine in a mini. Okay you'd think, but he kept the Blackbird Gearbox, and married the output shaft onto the mini driveshaft. The upshot of this is that the engine actually sits out on the front bumper and looks ugly as hell.

And the Mini had no reverse gear (surprise surprise)

The Mini mag were saying stuff like "You have to shift gears sequentially, and you have to use the clutch for first gear, after that just back off the throttle and push the gearlever forward and worryingly it moves up a gear."

You wouldn't catch anyone putting a Mini engine in a bike, so its an unfair trade in engines really.

Power to weight ratios. Phew that made me feel better!

There are quite a few sports cars that use bike engines. The Radical SK3(?) comes with the option of a ZZR1100, 'Busa or 255BHP 1500cc 'Busa engine!

I can understand using a bike engine in a lightweight/kit car, but not in a saloon chassis (I can't read Norweigian or whatever that is, so I dunno how much weight they managed to strip). Torque is more important than outright horsepower in most cars, though mainly to get the beast off the mark.

The 'Busa engine would fit in the Mini, but it would look like some sort of bastard child of a mini and one of those car ferries with a high door on the front. - weird in a word.
A mate of my uncle builds engines for car specials and he has a V8 based on the 'busa mill. Its also long stroke AFAIK so it displaces about 2.8 litres. Shoehorn that longways into a Mini and make it RWD and you've got yerself a car that might impress me.

The best part is that one day some mad fool is gonna mod the 'Busa frame to fit the freaky V8 in to it, cos the overall dimensions are not hugely different from the standard mill. Apparently it makes 320bhp with no tuning.

I've seen in one of the bike mags. That some company has made a bike with the Ford RS Cosworth engine, it looked similar to the Buell Firebolt (The sporty lookin one) and it was wide, fat, ugly and just didn't look right at all.

i've always had strange thoughts about putting a slightly different engine into a mini, as its a popular car for engine transplants, and small and light, but that means there aain'tmuch space in the engine room, for bigger or more interesting motors. I have always wondered about trying to put a big 2 stroke engine into a mini, as thats gotta be a first surely? The only car i ever heard of with a 2 stroke engine was some really old saab's that apparently were good at rallying! I think a stroker would fit the mini engine bay quite nicely, and say a big kawasaki 750cc triple might go in? or the strangest idea i've ever had is, that maybe a big V4 or V6 outboard boat engine would go in, if its possible to convert it to a closed circuit cooling system? ain't quite sure what type of gearbox would fit tho!

Get a couple of 500cc mx engines and use one on each wheel (or 4, for 4wd, if you're really adventurous).

Should be able to make 100hp each when tuned and weigh just about bugger all as well .

hey i've just bought a lancia y10 turbo. It's a great fun little car with a 1litre turbo engine. i reckon that a cossie engine should fit quite nicely.altough it would take months 2do!
