So what do people think of the new rules for the Ducati in 2008? about being allowed to enter a 1200cc bike with a weight handicap of 6kg's or depending on how the results go on the early races, give or take a few kg's here and there.

IL4's will stay as 1000cc but I really think Ducati are taking the piss with bending the rules all the time.

However as many of you may know, the Aprilia RSV IL4 bike will be the one to follow next season. I am gonna turn into a mad fan next year. Can't wait.

I know what you mean about Ducati. They seem to be doing alright with the 999!

But you forgot to mention the fact that they're also gonna be given an air restrictor, which will vary in size according to the length of straights, etc.

Can't imagine that'll be good for traction or straightline speed.

I'm also looking forward to seeing aprilia!

Yeah but they'll review it as the season goes on. Could you be really wierd. I can picture it now, first race and Bayliss wins by fifteen minutes. They make changes and then in the second race he gets lapped by everyone... Laughing

So true. I'm worried that they'll take the fun and competition out of racing.

Every week it's gonna be Honda/Yamaha moaning one week, and Ducati the next!

Why are they being allowed to do it?

I agree with you silver its either going to be huge benefit on straights or it will be to slow because of the restrictions and possible extra added weight. Look what ducatimanaged with the 800 gp bikes. Everyone else is a litre, why they feel the need to add 200cc i dont know.

It could also take the credit aweay from the riders with people saying its only down to the extra cc and straight line power.

The arguement is that in order to make the current 1000cc twins competitive they use more parts and have to spend a fortune on tuning.

Currently the twins are allowed more tuning to make up for the loss of power of a twin cylinder over a four. By gaining an extra 200cc the arguement is that it will be fairer and more cost effective for teams (not just Ducati) to use twins. They'll gain 200cc but lose the tuning advantages they currently have.

They dont seem to be suffering enough to justify that IMHO

Watching the wsb at silverstone whilst getting soaked they didnt seem to be doing to bad at all and whats to stop them tuning these ones up just as much.

Simple. The same reason as why I don't have a garage full of brand new bikes.....

the cost.

Well I hope they stop somewhere, as Aprilia are not in the best financial position out of the manufacturers. And I do hope they can afford to keep a bike in the WSBK and be competative.

I think as it is now, the bikes are quite evenly matched, so don't know why they want to change it.

I also heard that from 2010 onwards that for a bike to be in the WSBK it has to have a homoglation of 3000 bikes, think it's only at 1000 now.

Again I hope this won't faze out the RSV, not being bias but it's nice and exciting to see new bikes enter the WSBK.
Have no idea on what production and sales figures are with Ducati and Aprilia but I hope this don't screw them up, as they are by far no where near as popular as the Jap bikes.

Apparently the motors in the WSB dukes last under 500KM Shocked compared to about 4500KM for the 1000cc 4cyl WSB motors.

Still not sure if the rules should have been changed to favour Ducati's plans though. Didn't Suzuki and another team say they'd pull out of WSB and take there team to MotoGP if the 1200cc thing went ahead?
Would be cool to see Biaggi back in MotoGP Smile

There are tuning restrictions for all types of bikes. Now that they have their extra 200cc capacity they will have stricter tuning restrictions.

Yep, Francis Batta of Alstare Suzuki said that. Should be interesting...
