I am new to riding bikes, so this may sound stupid. I have been doing some practise up and down my road to get use to the bike and the controls before my test, and was wondering on gear changing techniques!! I have been told by someone that you don't neccesarly need the clutch while changing up but you do when you change down?? Is this right??? I don't want to ruin my gearbox by trying it if it don't work!!! [:p]

Hi, you can do both upshift and downshifts without a clutch, however, as you're new, I'd stick to just using the clutch.

Just use the clutch for now. When you're ready for clutchless changes you won't need to ask here. Wink

Just stick with the clutch dude.

If you didn't need it, it wouldn't be there. Smile
