The only reason I detest cyclists is because of the red light running. And fuck it, I'll be honest - I'm jealous. That and cycling on the pavement. But then again, I used to do that as a kid (admittedly not in a city fucking centre).
My argument has no foundations so I like them really. |

Some of those fucking idiots shouldn't be allowed on the road.

Guilty as charged. I cycle into work a lot, as well as for recreation, and I do run red lights. I know its illegal, but the reasons I do it are as follows:
1. Conservation of momentum. When you have got upto 20odd mph, it is fooking annoying scrubbing all that speed, only to have to put all the effort in again. In a car or on a bike, it takes no effort at all.
2. Its faster!
3. Bit of a lame reason, but I have spd pedals (where you click your feet in), and clicking them back in when starting off can be a bit tricky. This is not helped when you have a tool in a car right in your blind spot, or trying to push you into the curb. I try to avoid situations where a car can collect me, so I try not to stop at all.
4. It pisses car drivers off. Its like filtering, only better. though filtering on a pushbike is much more satisfying (and probably quicker) than on a motorbike.
5. The chance of me getting busted is minimal - I have no plate, and I don't do it when cops are around.
I appreciate that it can be disconcerting for pedestrians, and obviously if there is people using a crossing who I cannot give a very wide berth to, then I will stop.
However, if you want me to sit a red light waiting to turn left, when it is all clear then you can kiss my swingers. The majority of red lights I run are at junctions, not pedestrian crossings.
For those people who are riding on the pavement, then be warned, that is entirely illegal, and IMO carries a much higher risk of injuring a pedestrian than me not waiting a ped X when the only crosser is 3/4 over the road.

Well if I'm walking on a pavement then cyclists had better move round me or they'll find themselves flat on their arse. I'm quite a big feller and I'm not moving out of their way. They're not supposed to be on the pavement so if they want to share it with pedestrians, they go round not through. The ringing of bells will just make things go harder on them.
I've pushed cyclists off their bikes before when they did not show due courtesy to ther road/pavement users and I will undoubtedly do so again. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

IM guilty of being an arse on my mountain bike. on my bmx im not too bad because its knackering riding a fixed cog . But on my mountain bike im a nightmare and i admit it. It's all part of the fun. I chop and change between riding on the road, pavement, grass verges, through traffic that is stood still everything, as long as i can do it ill do it, regardless. I know its dangerous, but so is riding a motorbike, doesnt stop me riding does it, and yes it might be inconsiderate to other road users but so what. Ive not hit anything/one yet XD... i really must get my MB back together again. I miss terrorising preston

Cyclists do my head in they weave round infront of you and wont let traffic past and wont use the cycle paths that where provided when the yapped for them, they prefer to use a lane on the dual carriageway and cycle beside their path. ____________________ All the breast.

I am courteous to cyclists, i always leave a comfortable gap when i am waiting to overtake, and always leave plenty room to the left of me when i do overtake. Running red lights is just plain stupid when crossing very busy junctions, if they get twatted by a gigantic lorry, they only have themselves to blame. I have no problem with them crossing a junction as a pedestrian would do either, because like you said it causes no harm. Running a red light in rush hour at a busy junction is just plain stupid, though and i have seen it done many times.
Cyclists on dual carriageways piss me off too, once again it's their own fault if they get flattened. There are cycle paths there for them to use, but instead they endanger themselves and people who are actually entitled to use that road for absolutely no logical reason.
