Spent today with a piece of ally plate, and a load of tools, enjoying the sun Smile

Till now, I'd routed the music input lead for my autocom into the glovebox on the FJR. This was fine for the mostpart, but meant I couldn't easily turn off the music when needs be (toll booths, shouting across to friends at traffic lights).
Sooo.. I attacked some ally plate, padded it, and added it to the bracket under the Touratech GPS mount..

I cut a small hole in the back of the bracket, and the iPod mounts in the cradle clipped into it's belt clip. When mounted in the cradle, the belt-clip locates in the hole on the back, to make sure the iPod can't fall out. Indeed, it's almost a fiddle to remove it yourself, if you pull before you lift. Let's hope vibration and bumps aren't more adept at it.

I padded the ally plate with some non-slip matting type stuff, then used the omnipresent gaffa-tape to secure it in place, and make it somewhat weatherproof.

I'll be making a latex/ruberised cover to slip over the whole lot soon, to accomodate wet weather conditions. As it is, I'll just not listen to tunes if it rains.

Which is why it's mounted on a foam bed on the bracket, which is, in turn mounted on rubberised mounts on the touratec cradle..

Has had no problems today, and that was after a 2 hr ride on VERY bumpy fen roads.. if if you've ridden fen roads, then anything else is billiard table smooth by comparison.

The 'big' ipod and then Mini have a microdrive. The Nano and Shuffle are totally solid-state tho. So you're both right Very Happy

I keep mine in the inside pocket, much easier & the wire doesn't go from your head to the front of the bike. You can always use the ipod remote & tape it to something, to turn it on & off or change songs.

Neither does mine.. both the iPOD and garmin GPS are wired into the autocom, so both myself and my gorgeous pillion (selected at random from the several I have at my disposal of course Wink ) can listen to the tunes as well as Mme Garmin instructing our course.
