How to go about restriction...

Okay so I am buying a ZXR400 some point today when the dealer answers the bloody phone, but being on a restricted license im guessing I need to get the ZXR restricted. My question is, how do I go about doing it? I know the particular bike I am looking at doesnt come 33bhp restricted and If I had the money I would ask the place to restrict the bike for me. At the moment I dont have enough money for insurance until I get paid so I will have to pay somewhere to get it restricted later on. Will garages do that? If I ask for the bike to be restricted to 33bhp will they know what im asking for? Also if anyone has had a garage restrict before what should I expect to pay?

Lots of questions but I need some help here. Im not really 'mechanically minded' so I dont want to fit restrictors myself.

I'd post up on 400greybike and see if anyone has got a restriction kits you could have or see if there are any second hand ones and fit it yourself.

Try haggling with them and see if they will fit the kit for free..... Nothing lost by asking. Also stick to your guns as they are losing a sale... If you go eleswhere.

Don't bother with them mate unless your really that worried, out of the 6 people i knew that should have been restricted none of us were, we have all been pulled a few times and 2 of them made insurance claims and nothing ever came of it, just ride sensibly and you should be ok!

yeah i wouldnt bother either, im 19 and had 3 bikes, none restricted. Ive made a claim and they dont check that thoroughly, just a visual. And yeah ride safe

its best to have the restrictions fitted bya dealer with all the paper work correct, and then take them out at home.

i did that had an accident the other week got my bike home and put the restrictions back in and then informed the insurance of the accident.

the cop dint ask me about restrictions, he ignored my illegal cans and he dint give me a producer.

restrictions cost around 150 - 200 quid from FI international, but its worth having the paper work.

Just for the record the paper work means jack sh!t.

It's just a way for FI to charge silly amounts for 4 washers.

There is no LEGAL requirement for the certificate. If the washers are in from a legal point of view you cannot be touched. In the same way if they have been removed and the police impound your bike and check as they have the power to do and you are found restrictorless you will get done regardless of paperwork or not.

It's purely your choice of course. If it was me I would get it restricted. Do at least a year restricted. Learn to corner quickly + safely. Then take them out and go careful.

I removed mine after a year. Just for arugements sake I never had any paper work for my washers. I had a printed out thing from the dealer I bought it from and kept the washers in.

Of course I cannot condone such behaviour.

hi, i got my zxr400 for my first bike on a restricted licsence, had the restrictors ready to go in, phoned the insurance and they didnt ask for the certificate, hmmmm , so i didnt put them in, they are still in my toolbox now, my 2 years are now up and i have never had them in and have never been asked any questions, had two accidens too, but is still worth having the restrictors just in case so you can slip them in in an emergency!

Yea, the dealer will just want rid of the bike tbh. When I got my Mille, it should of had the restrictor thing as I was nearing the end of my 2 year 33bhp period, and they did not even mention it once nor did they want to see my licence when I collected the bike !

Also no insurance company I have been with asked for any kind of certifcate while I was on a restricted licence.
