Alot depends on how much you want to spend - I have an Autocom system that I swear by, but they are far from cheap.

I use these. They have fantastic clear sound. they also have an intercom facilitly for rider to pillion and the best bit - they can be scrambled so nobody else can understand you and are less likely to interupt you on that frequency! They are very robust.

https://www.walkie-talkie-hire.co.uk/downloads/Cobra-MT925-manual.pdf

Shop around for the best deals. I was damn lucky, got them for £12 each, brand new (handset only, no charger). Got a rapid 1-hour charger from Maplin (auto power alternating for around the world use) and some high-capacity rechargeable batteries. You can get them from between £45 & £65

The belt clip is VERY secure, but they're compact enough to slip into a pocket. They use the 2-pin headset & mic.

They are professional quality radios, used on construction sites, security, etc.

Hope this helps?

Try and go for a throat mike for the microphone - most people I've talked to have said 'normal' ones are useless at any decent speed.

Autocom looks good, what radio do you use with it?

Are there any good radios that can take batteries so if not in a position to charge up can stick some new ones in?

Also how does the throat mic work? Is that not effected by wind speed etc as wont have wind protection from helet.

A throat mike uses the vibrations from your throat, so is less effected by wind than a normal which will still have a fair bit of wind going past it and effecting it.

The cobra radios nearly all use standard triple a batterys, they come with rechargeables but all will work...

Then you'll definitely need a decent throat mike I believe.
I don't see PTT should be too bad if you have it handle bar mounted.

You get what you pay for with coms equipment. The two best and most popular so far as I am aware of are :

https://www.autocom.co.uk/

and

https://www.starcom1.com/

Within the autocom range particular models are battery powered and others bike battery powered. I believe the Starcom can be powered by bike battery or its own seperate battery.

I can't help of thinking of that Ned guy from Southpark with the throatbox thingy! hehe

Imagine if you sounded like that everytime you spoke through the intercom!
