Bike Alarms

I'm planning on moving house soon and may end up having to leave the motorbicycle parked around stockport/manchester or close surrounding areas depending on where work appears. Really don't like the idea of this with no alarm/immobiliser.

I been thinking about maybe getting one that pages or texts you when something disturbs it for complete piece of mind.

Anybody got one that does this or can anybody recommend just a normal decent alarm. I've seen the ones on ebay for £20 or so but can't imagine them being very reliable at such a cheap price.

I have a datatool System 3 on my Mille. It's been good so far.

IMO you get what you pay for, sure the datatool's aren't cheap, but you're less likely to get stranded at the side of the road. Insurance companies don't always offer you money off unless they've been fitted by a proper fitter as well.

If you want to be texted when it moved I think datatool offer an add on for this.

That said my mate has a £20 cheapy ebay alarm on his zx6R and that's been fine so far.

those text/ring alarms are ok as far as i have heard. but if you have no signal you on your mobile you cant know if the bike is danger.

it's £65 but creates a microwave bubble around the bike so you dont even have to touch the bike to set the alarm off. good and bad.
they have cheaper ones too.
they also give you a wiring diagram for the alarm to fit your specfic bike

I got a XENA Brake Disc Alarm for my bike. Okay its not an alarm like the Datatool, but its actually very good and only £40. Basically its like any other disc lock, but when it detects movement it sets off the 110db alarm. Its very loud! Its also very sensitive and only requires someone to touch it lightly and it will set off. I have done it when unlocking it a few times and if someone were trying to move the bike when stealing it the alarm would also go off.

I got a discount on my insurance too.

they have fitters in some places at an extra cost. think it says on the website somewhere. you could always get a bike shop to fit it for you, same as if oyu bought say a datatool - you wouldnt want ti fit that either so whoever you got to fit that could fit this

I bought a £20 ebay cheapy, was a piece of piss to fit and has caused no problems has a remote cut off too. I know where it all fits to so if I have any trouble I know how to whip it off.

I too bought the cheapo ebay alarm for 20 quid,it's been on nearly a week and been no trouble....I'd recommend it.

I fitted one to my lads bike (Cyclone Alarm) about a month ago, its used as a deterrent to stop little gits messing with it while its parked up at college. Only took about 20 mins to fit. I didn't fully wire it, didn't want to mess with the ignitions wires.

Does the job and seems a reliable bit of kit.

I think I'll give the £65 MAGIC alarm a whizz, see what it's like. Anyone know a rough price I'd be looking at to get it fitted by someone proper?
