 |

The English government want to make it a legal requirement to stay at school until you are 18. Just England, the Scottish parliament has binned the idea.
This will apparently solve the problem of people leaving school at 16 without qualifications.
"Mr Balls (the education Secretary) said the new age limit would be enforced by a "robust regime" of support and penalties including spot fines and court action.".

So, there are quite a few 17 and 18 year olds on here. Get back to school or face a fine? Or maybe you're still there anyway? ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

All I can see it doing is keeping the kids who don't want to be there disrupting the education of those who genuinely want to learn.
I can't begin to tell you how much my education improved while at college once the troublemakers were gone, busy flipping burgers at MaccyD's |

But this will eliminate the need to bribe^H^H^H^H^H support kids with EMA, and provide a new tax in the form of fines, if it's enforced hard enough.... ____________________ TheShaggyDA: I've got 3 or 4 pairs that predate my wife, so at least 11.5 years old. |

Thats a bad idea in my opinion. School was always hard to get by if you were trying to achieve as there would be a lot of kids getting in the way of that who didn't want to be there.
6th form was good because those who we're interrupting a lot, or jsut didn't want to be there, weren't there, so you can learn better.
Uni is even better as you don't get any problems really, well in my experience anyway.
I think 6th form would have been a lot harder if I had to be there with the low lifes I got stuck with in school.. ____________________ Past: 55 Sym Jet, 91 ZZR250, 03 NSR125R. Present: 97 ER-5.

Completely agree with you harold
I think dole should be wiped out completely, ok, some people have kids to look after and mum's often take years out of work...but was it not their choice to hav/ keep the child in the first place? and is that not what child benefit is for ____________________

NO no , the dole should be kept but with 2 caveats ,
#1 there is an ABSOLUTE limit of 3.5 years max, this puts a ticking clock above the heads of people
#2 You can only take out if you've put in al la the Malaysian system where effectively the government keeps track of your contributions,
Thus for people who are down on their luck for a short time it acts as a safety net which can't be lived on,,
but hey if there was no dole the government would spend 121bn less , which effectively means income tax would cease to exist, and only consumption taxes would have to be inplace, ie VAT. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. That makes it better for the kids who aspire to becoming a dole bum, at the moment its not possible to sign on as soon as you leave school as the minimum age is 18 afaik.
So it'll mean more ppl leave school and go straight onto dole bum seekers allowance.
This government needs eradicating they're too full of shit ideas ____________________ Previously; Honda XR125 - Yamaha DT125r - Aprilia Rs125 - Suzuki GS500e, Currently; Kawasaki ZX6R + ZX10R

| Dale_Mckeown wrote: | Then there is the problem there is not enough college's/ sixth forms to hold the masses of chavs, what are they going to do, have inadequate teachers teach a-level topics and see the results fall dramatically? because i can gurantee you the majority of the people who actually left and got jobs virtually failed their gcse's, and without gcse's you cant go into "further education" so whats the point?? they will be at school forever!!!!! |
Well Education Leeds is toying with the idea of removing 6th forms from schools and it would appear making these go to collages built for the purpose of purely 6th form learning... Good idea i'm not sure as Education Leeds is a privatly (non profit) run concern founded by one P Ridsdale and run by his old bussom buddy C Edwards....
While i can see your point about the ones who are not interested in even turning up getting out, i also know the filp side where many who could go on and do 6th form and Uni have decided to jack it in, and get a job as they see it as the best way forward to get where they want. Many now see Uni as causing nothing but debt and then the whole trauma of trying to find a job, when if leaving at 16 they, if they are that way out, will be in a position were they will be far better off, no debt, good wage and proberly in a position where they will be hiring the so called elete comming out of uni......
I think far too many now see 6th form and Uni as just a means of putting off the enivatble of going and getting a job and having to work for a living.
Yes i know many going to Uni are doing so to better their chances, but with all the silly degree's these days that are no use in the real world.... ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |
