Ello all,

Just another random question from me (I'm reverting into a n00b...).

Anyway, just wondering how the whole bank/credit card statement thing works for refunds etc? I know for sure that the store in question will accept the statement as proof of purchase, however, I'm not sure exactly which transaction it was...would they accept a statement that showed a transaction that actually occured, say, a week after the item was purchased? Or will they use the date of the transaction on the statement as the basis some search on their system?

Any experience/knowledge of this would be much appreciated!

Cheers,

Most shops refund anything, Especially clothes.

I've got stuff from riverisland, Came back the next day and they have refunded it without asking for the receipt. Apparently this is how 'good' shoplifters do it, As they get the full retail price, and if the shop attendant refuses they say 'Okay, I will go look for the receipt.'

If you paid by card it often doesnt show on the day of purchase anyway.

Likelihood is No receipt = Store Credit

This then minimizes the stores losses if the item was indeed stolen.

Exchanges however shouldnt need a receipt and are much easier.

I used to work in Matalan and we had membership cards that would also act as proof of purchase and this made things much easier when we had to deal with people who had lost the receipt.

TK Maxx dont have membership cards so wont be able to tell what you bought on a particular day unless they match your credit card to a transaction done by the Till Op that served you but that would involve the receipt.

Are you returning everything bought in that transaction? Because otherwise they wont be able to tell what the total is anyway.

In reality you need the receipt for the purchase. What you could do is ring the bank and ask for the transaction id for the purchase and the auth code, and the date and time (poss, but depends on the retailer processing at the time).

That would help TK Max to trace the purchase. But will not be a quick thing for the store to do.

I know its anal, but people really should keep receipts.

usually if you have no receipt they ask you for a back statement or whatever

It's just to prove you purchased the item from the store, usually big businesses that do it
our shop does it
