Hi

If it is a reasonable condition bike then I would not worry. However if it is a bike you have no experience of (so potentially could be in poor condition) then more of a problem. Make sure you have recovery cover and take a spare spark plug with you.

All the best

Keith

google maps says 4:54mins a 5 hour ride on a nsr125!

flipping heck that might not be too nice but it also could be very nice as you're avoiding m'ways you might get some nice twisties and country roads.

but as winter is closing in it may not be too nice plus possibly dangerous on a new bike that you're not used to.

maybe check these guys out....

make sure you time the journey with the weather.

good luck, richard.

It'll be fine if the bike is in good nick, you dont scream it and youre a good navigator. Nothing worse than being stuck on an unfamiliar bike, lost in the middle of nowhere, in the pissing rain.

Take a spare plug as kickstart says, and a litre of 2 stroke oil just in case, and make sure you have good raingear.

And dont forget to plan your fuel stops Razz

Sounds like a little adventure lol, I reckon you can do it, just be careful and make sure the NSR is up to it before the trip, check things like chain tension, fuel & oil (obvious I know but better said than not) and as said twice already make sure you take a spare spark plug!

Also make sure you heat the bike up! it's getting very cold now and as a result not the best time of the year for 2 stroke motors, you don't want to seize the bike 10 miles down the road just because you couldn't be assed to warm the engine up.

Finally, have fun! Very Happy

P.S Swansea's not far from where I live, I used to go down to the DVLA office to get some paperwork etc sorted out... Thumbs Up

Easily I've done 300 miles on mine in one day. You should be able to do that no worries, well, assuming the bikes in good enough condition Wink Mine was in a state of a very very good engine, and everything else was a bit.. meh. Oh and I had a full set of luggage, see here.

I assume you are talking about my NSR?

My main worry would be the blown fork seals, the dodgy headlight and the electrics (home made loom). It has never broken down on me but if you get pulled with that lot you're in the shit.

Also what about all the stuff I am bundling in with it?! you can't carry that on a bike! Smile

I did over a 100 mile round trip on my H100 on Saturday to go and get a sausage buttie for my lunch so I'd say 160 on an NSR wouldn't be too much of a hardship.

Personally id find a friend with a driving licence if you dont have one and hire a trailer or van, ask around and borrow some ratchet straps.

Alot easier, and you dont have the hassle if the bike breaks down mid route, and itd be alot quicker as you could use motorways.

I would get it 'carried', or, ride the bike and get everything else ferried another way. I wouldn't worry about getting stopped with that as it is and would think it would only take a few hours for the distance. And damn, that is a good price. Thumbs Up

This time of year, the trip length, and your lack of confidence really don't work in your favor. Plan your route out ahead of time and have a friend or relative ready to come pick you up along that route should it break down. Then ride it home.

If it is going to break down, it'll probably do it on that trip home. That's quite an endurance run for a 125 IMO. If it does, you've already planned ahead and are ready for it. That would sure beat trailering it home and having it break down later when you're going somewhere important.

Not really. 125 shouldn't have a problem on a little 160 mile jaunt. Be more worried about the condition of the bike rather than it being a 125 for a journey like that.

All the best

I reckon the rider would give up before the bike runs into major problems.

AS said, I've covered more miles than that in one day and mines older(i think) so it would have no problem. Have your breakdown card and mobile at the ready tho. Smile

I once rode 120 miles on my NSR... broke down 15 miles from destination, needed a new HT lead. But the return journey went without a hitch and I got 80 mph out of it.

Do the trip, just bring spares.

To each their own. I did 4 miles on a 50cc Honda 2 stroke and I thought I damn near killed it. I personally wouldn't trust anything smaller than a 250 for any trip taking more than half an hour.

Hi

Many times I did 150+ mile journies on a 2 stroke 125. And not taking it that easy either (dual carraigeway bits sitting at an indicated 80+).

Did blow it up once doing it once. More my fault as I had just put a new (pattern) piston in there.

All the best

Keith
