The steering Lock on my Honda CBR keeps jamming, mainly when trying to unlock it. Anybody else had this problem? and what can I do to fix it?

They do that as they get on a bit.

First thing to try is a bit of WD40 in the keyhole and work it back and forth.

Every bike older than about 10 years I've had the steering lock is completely unusable.

Try wiggling the handlebars while you unlock it, they only tend to have a small area where they will lock, if the bars move and press against the limit so to speak it feels awkward to unlock.

If not like was said, WD40 it. Smile

when i bought my ZZR6, (its a 93 model) the steering lock was stiff. infact - i bent my key ones possibly cos of poor technique though. went and got a new key cut, put it in and twisted the steering lock on - off, on - off. for a minute or two and it freed up loads. try that, WD40 will help in that process too. depends how stiff it is.

its a bugger when that happens.
my mates girlfriend snapped his key in his bike when he was away, its funny now, but not then. new key cut, didn't fit, cut agen, didn't fit, then we had a man brain storm, then put a bit of 2 by 4 between the forks, and snapped it off. now its fine. it was only a SR125 but still Laughing .

wouldn't do it if you could help it Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

This happened to me the other day. I couldnt turn the damn key for ages, just kept wiggling it about until it turned. You have to take the weight off the steering lock too, that makes it easier. I got to work and I couldnt get the key out. I sprayed some brake cleaner into the hole and the key came out. I sprayed a bit more brake cleaner in there and then some WD40-like stuff (the Wurth equivalent) and stood there putting the key in and out and locking/unlocking the bike for a while. Seems to have done the trick. Thumbs Up
