It's a matter of respect to ALL road users.
We do not have a Jay-walking law in this country.
Hit a pedestrian and suffer the law.
No need to fly through a residential area.

I would say personally I beleive that kids who are more looked after, Ie from a 'reasonable area' are more likely to be 'blissfully unaware' dangerous, as apposed to kids who are from teh ghetto blud, who know the dangers, found them themselves from learning, but just don't care enough, assuming that car drivers will stop because they have to.
I only posted to voice my opinion about the 'class' system which has been subtley put into context here, in the assumption that being middle class in a reasonable area makes you less of a blithering idiot, but as I'm posting I shall refer to the OP.
I personally think 20mph is a waste of time. I live in a small town, Whitstable in the south east. Its basically suburbia with a one street high street which branches to 2 one way systems. The whole part where there are shops is a 20mph limit, which is fair enough, but the only time you actually do 20mph, is when its busy and there are people in the way from the 6 zeba crossings in 3/4 mile 
My point is, when it needs to be 20mph (in my area, from my experience) it is already 20mph, by there actually being congestion from said idiots being in the way. Coincidently there is a school just up the road leading straight onto a semi residential main road that is a 30, but most people slow right down anyway.
I personally think that speed cameras are a good idea in 20's outside schools, hospitals, old folks homes etc, and I can just imagine every person reading this' face screwing up, but hear me out. In 20's its that simple. You do 20mph because thats what it is, if not you take the points. 30's I kinda agree with, again because most of them are there for a reason. Any other road than that, (with some blatent exceptions but I cant think of them right now) If they want to control the speed, it should be done by a traffic copper without a quota, who is merely going on the conditions.
For example, Coming home last night from the pub, I was in a friends car, going 95 cruising home on an empty dual carriageway. If there had been a scamera, he'd be getting some points now, even though it was perfectly suited for such things. However, if it was doing excessive speed in a built up area at kicking out time, the same applies but in the opposite way, its just stupid.
I know its never going to happen the way I've rambled on about, but this thread was never going to be perfecto

Ok today has been a testing day for me so I have just got to be honest here, regardless of how it may effect my popularity.
If drunk tramps try and block my route... I speed up and aim at them, and then I slow down before I reach them, THEY MOVE.
If 4X4's or any other car for that matter is approaching me through a row of parked cars, I carry on, THEY MOVE.
If a driver tries to force me off tha road whilst I'm filtering through traffic, I carry on and THEY MOVE.
If I'm passing a large gathering of kids who are messing about by tha road I accelerate then brake, then I Rev tha engine loudly, THEY MOVE.
Despite all this I can still maintain that I am mostly a safe rider, believe it or not, I came off today and my bike has bent forks but I was riding legally and it was a slippy road, needless to say tha events were beyond my control. BUT, I have a split personality on tha roads, I ride completely in two separate ways...
Defensive, Giving road users space, being highly visible, Treating everything like a hazard and thinking for all tha other drivers.
Then there is my Offensive Mode, I am not ashamed to say, If someone is acting a fool around me either I will remove myself from tha picture as soon as possible, or bully tha roads ans literally force Drivers/ Pedestrians to keep out of my way. I would not say this is reckless becuase I do realise how they might act so I avoid them danger, but it scares tha shit out of them, and sometimes I think they deserve it. It does not make me popular on these roads and it is not giving bikers a good image, but on tha other hand I get allot of kinder and better drivers/ peds showing grace and courtesy, to which I will return. Quite simple... Give and take to whatever tha subject is demanding. |

Yeh I see what you're saying, but sometimes when I'm on tha road I just really don't give a fuck... I obviously value my life but I do occasionally put myself in situations that are either gunna make me feel really alive or really dead/paralysed  . Its just a risk you have to be prepared to take  . |

No actually Kal I do like what you have said... As a pedestrian I do exactly tha same thing, wether that would be against drivers trying to push thier way past, or just walking down a busy street, even large groups of chavs will get out of my way if I keep eye contact.
My basic philosophy around this is "my space is private, do not enter my space", but unluckily for everyone else 'my space' is moving along with me so "stay out of my face and I'll stay out of your face".
In other words I use my own personal space as a bulldozer to clear tha way of cars and people whether I'm walking or riding  . |
