Gerald Ellis, who owns the land the vehicle was driven on, said: “As a landowner I am pleased to see the public enjoying the countryside in a responsible manner. The route over my farm is enjoyed by walkers, horse riders and cyclists. These ancient routes were not designed to be used by motor vehicles which destroy the surface of the path, making it difficult for everybody else to use.

I doubt that 'these ancient routes' were built so that people would have somewhere to amble along whilst dressed from head to toe in goretex. They'd have been used by horses, then vehicles. Now most are reserved for walkers only, and many are gradually disappearing exactly because of that.

And since when were farmers in a position to judge others for 'destroying paths'? Tractors do more damage to trails than anything else, by far.

It's the Countryside Alliance and Ramblers Association that's depriving us of our green lanes. They don't like the noise of our bikes or 4x4's spoiling their peaceful walk.

Improper knowledge of green lanes and the various trail organisations by the government means the walkers get their own way.

Soon as that generation has gone the better.

Also,
In most cases the traffic keep the lanes from becoming overgrown. We also keep an eye on the condition of the lanes each time we use them.

Eventually these routes are gonna become overgrown and un maintained no one's gonna risk walking down them.

A Guildford man has had to learn the hard way about where he cannot use his vehicle in the countryside.

Yea so he got an £80 fine plus £50 court costs, big fucking deal!

A single tyre for his truck probably costs more! Laughing
