Hi

The forum does seem to have slowed down quite a bit (even on the connection at work when every sensible person has gone home).

All the best

Keith

I've notices this, though on this machine at home it seems to display done several seconds before the page is visible.

I'd expect it to be a bit slower simple bacause there's a lot more work being done... Also I haven't had a chance to go through everywhere optimising things yet.

Any bits that are particularly slow?

At the bottom of each page is a little thing that says something like:

Quote:
Page Generation Time: 0.31 Sec

That gives you the time it took for the server to get your request, build the page and shove it back out the door. Most pages take well under 1 second to generate, apart from the stats page - so you can easily tell if it's the forum being slow or your internet connection. Let me know if you ever catch it taking a long time to generate pages, cos that'll mean the forum is going slow.

Hi

Afraid that what seems to be happening is that it is locking up the browser. This is using IE 5.5 at work. It is still seeming to be doing something, but taking over 5 minutes before I cancel it. It is not getting far enough to display how long the page has taken to generate.

Also when it does this it also will not respond to the "Stop" button on the browser. Only way to stop it seems to be to overtype the address field. This has not been a problem in the past.

Almost like it has generated a very large page with recursive messages.

Sorry about this.

All the best

Keith

Next time it happens can you just leave it until it finishes loading so the time is displayed? I have a sneaking suspicion I know what might be happening. Also are you loading multiple pages at the same time?

Hi

I will try, but it is not consistant.

I am not getting it by opening multiple windows (although that is what I normally do at home due to the slow connection). However I do tend to go into a thread and then press the back button and go into another (saves faffing round trying to find a link back, and without the page auto updating it is a lot quicker). Most of the time I will do then same if I have posted and have not opened multiple windows.

This thread did it to me:-

https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=21810

It locked up, so I have up and hammered around with the back button until it let me out. Tried again and it locked again. Gave up and came in here. Opened a new window and tried it in that and it worked fine.

All the best

Keith

Hi

Currently doing it again in another window (this time).

URL is:-

https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?p=172258#172258

If is just sitting there. Nothing showing in the progress bar.

Message at the bottom of the screen (ie, a message from the browser) just reads "Downloading picture https://www.asdz68.dsl.pipex.com/bcf_mirror/bcf/templates/standard/images/icon_mini_search.gif..."

Been sat there for 5 minutes so far.

Now up to 20 minutes, so have given up as I need to go home.

Chopped the "#172258" off the end of the URL and it loaded fine.

Got this when I again:-

"Debug Mode: ON - Page Generation Time: 3.02 Sec - MySQL Queries: 17 - Page Size: 241.81 Kb "

All the best

Keith

Keith seeing as the new forum 'remembers' what threads you have or have not viewed does that mean you can stop using your work log in?

Keith your not the only one with this problem, I too have exactly the same problems, although sometimes it won't even load up? I clicked on that first link keith gave, think Colin said it was a thread with Ste's ass on it and it still hasn't loaded, I clicked it literally about 6 minutes ago!

Old Thread Alert!

The last post was made 20 years, 101 days ago. Instead of replying here, would creating a new thread be more useful?
