After just reading poor Groovearmadas thread, I was wondering how quickly you all filter?

Personally, I wouldnt filter with a speed differential of more than 20mph over the traffic.

So if they are crawling, 20-25 for me. 30mph? 50 for me. Much more than 30, then I ask is there really a need for me to filter or am I just doing it for shits and giggles.

Obviously, its another one of these questions you cant really generalise as traffic, road and weather conditions play a massive part.. but...

Watch this copper filtering north on the M5 to join the M6: link, personally I go a tad slower as I don't have the dayglow stripes 'n' lights. Mr. Green

A favorite filtering clip. And I never do it at more than roughly 10mph above traffic speed. Think at anything more than 20 it becomes overtaking really.

I'd filter at about 20mph tops, regardless of what speed the other traffic is travelling at.

Saying that, I've only ever filtered in town/city traffic, and if it's already doing over 20mph, I see no reason to take the risk of filtering faster. I still get where I want to be faster than I would if I were in a car, and the time savings don't have to be that great for me to appreciate them.

Anything I do on a bike is for shits and giggles... So therefor I don't have a limit, except for my top speed (which I obviously don't actually filter at).

Down the Dual carraigeways - it's anything between 30-50 mph. Obviously, i'm trying to ride at a speed where i would be observant and be able to spot impending hazards. I say 50mph, since that's if it's the last in a line of cars or a long gap.

In heavy traffic - i keep it sub 20's. If people think they can filter quicker, i generally move in, gesutre and they acknowledge.

On fast duallies and motorways, i roughly filter more or less 10mph faster than the traffic - i.e. if it's a 20mph crawl - i move at 30 etc.. Anything more than 50, I don't bother... or at least i don't class it as filtering when i'm moving between cars with sufficient space.

Not filtered beyond 70mph frequently although it depends if there are other bikes around me doing that sort of speed and if i'm not the first in a line of bikes too.

Normally 10-20 mph.

However, on the way back from the NEC bike show last year I filtered at silly speeds on the M6. It was by the far the stupidest thing I've done on a bike but it sure was fun... Rolling Eyes

Usually about 40 where ever. Never slower than 30 unless stuck behind somone else. 9 out of 10 times they struggle to get through gaps you can get a bus in to though.

Fasted ive filtered is 140 or so, done a couple of 100mph wheelies filtering too Laughing

Never did that much though for obvious reasons.

Never with a difference to the rest of the traffic of more than 10MPH as then its overtaking and not filtering. Even then it depends on traffic conditions and if its safe to filter.

I don't filter at speed, I keep an eye on my mirrors, and move in for those that do.

i prefer filtering at speed, my morning commute on the bypass is generally at about 40mph where the cars are sitting at about 5-10mph, and then on the way home the traffic is at about 50-60 mph, and ill filter at around 90-130 depending on the weather and how the drivers are reacting to me. Very Happy

id say 10-15 mph more then what the traffic im passing is doing but when traffic is anything above 50mph are the is not much point in trying to filter as its pretty much free flowwing.

About 20 mph faster than the traffic regardless of their speed.

Well if my balls are particularly huge when I wake up one day, speed tends to be significantly higher than when I have the nuts of squirrel and reitterate to myself the consequences of a car door hurdle session Rolling Eyes

You get the idea. Alter speeds to conditions - there may well be a tool on a zx6R that shoots passed at 40mph, but to be first at the lights you must first finish Thumbs Up Go progressive but steady basically.
