https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7291607.stm

"We could not believe that we'd caught him out. My girlfriend saw he was on his mobile. She grabbed hers and took a picture of him."

I'm not a fan of drivers on the phone, but taking a picture of someone else doing something like this, in order to get them in trouble? Not one for this behaviour really. Confused

So, BCF massiv, thin end of the wedge with regard to encouraging snitching on others or a jealous couple with a cross to bear and wanting the five minutes of fame?

Question

What is it Clarkson likes to say about "Bikes with illegally loud exhausts"...?

Suck it up Clarkson...and if YouTube footage is enough to get bikers prosecuted for speeding, a photo should be enough to get Clarkson prosecuted for using a mobile while driving. But I expect we'll see the 'One rule for the rich/powerful/famous, another rule for everyone else' clause implemented.

That couple would've seen him chatting on his phone and thought: "£££££"

As said, using mobiles while driving is dangerous but (as also said) I wouldn't be going round snapping people doing it, especially for monetary gain...

The tabloid press really are bottom feeders along with the people who feed them the effluent they like to print.

Don't agree with anyone on their mobile phone while driving, regardless of class/race/sex. There is a good obvious reason why they take such a heavy hand with it now, and thats because people prove time and time again that they are not capable of using a phone, and driving a car.

In clarksons case, as much as I like the guys work, he shouldn't have been doing it, he knows the rules and I have no sympathy for whatever he may have coming to him.

However to put a spin on it, given that he spends most of his time, doing two things at once, driving a car/talking to a camera etc. He is probably more qualified in such an act than your average joe public, so whether or not he was being particularly dangerous who can say.

If people took a picture of me whilst I was driving purely with the intention of incriminating me, they would shoot right to the top of my "need to die" list. Not impressed with this pair of clowns. I assume they were driving also? Can't have been paying the necessary attention to the road either then, can they?

Yeh, i'm sure that £60 quid is going to sting him hard. Plus i'm sure he'll be ever so remorseful and upset.

On the flipside, i wouldn't like to be them two now they've incurred the wrath of the fans. Can we say Black balling

How many times does it have to be told that Jeremy Clarkson does not hate bikes, it's publicity, it works.

He's openly admitted in other interviews that he has no problems with bikers but is terrified of bikes.

As for the original topic, how pathetic "could not believe we had caught him out" what because he's rich and famous does that mean he's a model citizen to some people. Rolling Eyes

Personally, i think using a mobile while driving is about as distracting as having a row with someone in the car while driving or even less so.

I think the distraction is caused by your attention being on what you are talking about rather than on the road.

I think having only one hand on the wheel isnt really that dangerous.

However, the law is the law, and its not that hard to use a handsfree headser in the car to abide by the law.

I think clarksons defence that it wasnt a phone he was holding to his ear is quite a good defence.

Plausible though unlikely. Id like to hear what he claims he was holding to his ear.

A shoe ? a portable radio ? What else would you hold to your ear that is phone shaped ?

He's lying of course, but we can't really prove that can we.

Wonder how many people can honestly say they don't ever answer the phone when they're driving?

£60 will hit him hard, wouldn't be too hard for him to land himself some advertising deal for promoting whatever brand hands free kits, so he could cash in from this. Razz

I think a walkie talkie comes under a mobile communications device which is what the law specifies I think. CB radios you can get away with unless your driving is affected.

Problem is this is a motoring offence so it'll be treated on a par with murder and child molestation. People can send all the videos and photos they want of kate moss or amy winehouse snorting drugs to the police and nothing is ever done, take a photo of someone driving while using a phone and hes screwed.

Loved the cartoon in one of the tabloids with their take on "Berk in a Merc". Pointed out it was a good job he was not driving a tanker.

Having said that, don't be a prat Jeremy, get a hands free kit.

Yeah, you're right, he really helps and supports and promotes bikes as being safe, ecological and socially responsible means of transport to both the general public and watching politicians. He's the bikers friend in the media, making life easier for all of us.

He actually commented about this in his column in The Sun on saturday..

He basically said.. He's not going to stop using his mobile, he's going to tint the windows on his car so he can't be seen and he was only doing 70 because that was the fastest the car could do.. Laughing

I also NEVER use a phone when driving, if someone rings, I will pull over and answer it, if it rings off I will wait till I have stopped somewhere and ring them back.

He deserves it, ANYBODY using a phone when driving deserves it.

If it was just a joe public person who was CAUGHT by someone taking a picture most in here would say thats great.

Because its clarkson everyone thinks its wrong that he has been caught by somebody.

Whether he likes it or not, he is a public figure now, he has a lot of sway with cars and motoring in general so going round driving on a mobile phone is wrong for him as much as anybody else.

I am glad he was caught.

Driving without due care and attention is illegal.

Driving without due care and attention because you're using a mobile is ever so illegal.

This is what happens to your laws when the government listens to Scum and Daily Hatemail readers...

Also, I doubt the couple really did it for the cash, or even if they got that much, it's a pretty boring story, but more probably just to piss off Clarkson.

Like the Lib Dems buying him a push bike for christmas Laughing , I'm pretty sure they knew he wouldn't use it.
