after seeing mr.z's hamster water bottle design, i decided to have a go myself, seen as my sister used to have a lot of tropical fish theres a lot of airline and various other gubbins floating around, so after a bit of bodgery we get this.

https://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg307/virusjohn/evolution%20of%20cg/73a8abb9.jpg
gubbins put together, using one of the hobs on the cooker to melt the cap/tube joint so it doesnt leak. all the rest just pushes on as it was designed for that airline.
https://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg307/virusjohn/evolution%20of%20cg/185a237f.jpg
the washing up liquid bottle (held on with a shoelace and a dodgy bit of coathanger wire)
https://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg307/virusjohn/evolution%20of%20cg/01dfb28c.jpg
the tap thingy, and a one way valve on the end to act as an aiming doober

Cheers

Erm don't you need a valve or hole or something to let air into the bottle to replace the oil that seeps out?.

I thought Scott oilers ran off the Carb vacuum or something? Confused
Once you get a vacuum in that bottle, No oil will come out.

And if you do pop a hole in the bottle. Oil will dribble out 24/7 and you will end up with an empty bottle after a few days and a massive oil patch where you park the bike.

i think youve got a point there binge..
John, what about using one of those little oil cans with the handle you pump? You could just give it a pump before and after a ride to lube the chain without it constantly dribbling

oil wont be able to get out if i put a hole in the bottle, il tighten up the screw halfway down the line, this will stop oil flowing.

as ive said its not tested yet so some modifications may need to be done.

Cheers

Have a look at this

It's called the guyoiler and works off a fuel injector.

He might as well just squeeze the bottle that he's got fitted now.

Virus why didn't you just use the same method as MR Z's bottle?

As said before you need a hole in the bottle and a tap that you can turn on and off when you are not using it.

and by the way, thats seriously pikey Thumbs Up

dont put a hole in the bottle

use it like a loobman

with that, you just give the bottle a squeeze to fill the pipe and squirt a bit on your chain after or before each ride

scotoilers hook upto the carbs or throttle bodies and operate a little diaphragm and the dial lets the diaphragm open so much.
you'd have to leave a breather in yours at the top somewhere then open the one way valve so much to let it drip so often like once every 5 mins? maybe a bit more or come up with your own little mechanism like the scotoiler. It works like a pump you see. Thumbs Up Smile

Your Heath Robinson approach is to be commended.

However, spotting the missing lower chain guard if you replace this then the chain will effectively be running in its own oil bath Very Happy

Thumbs Up

i reckon it would be better to imitate a loobman than a scottoiler, as it will be easier to control the flow of oil

the automatic process done by the scottoiler is only necessary on long trips where you wdnt want to be squeezing a bottle every few hundred miles, but even then, if you put it at the front of the bike it wouldnt be too bad.

if you let it flow out undergravity by putting a hole in the bottle, you will need a way of precisely controlling the flow rate which will be tricky. you could easily have either an oil slick or nothing coming out

if you work out a way to vary the flow rate then the hole method may be ok, but i reckon a closed system that you squeeze from time is gonna be a better bet

Like the little valve he has half way down? Where he can undo and tighten the little plastic screw? Rolling Eyes

true, but it gets battered too much on the trails, and i have given it away.

solution:
iris o ring chain and a loobman my mate gave me, job done Laughing
