Yes you do need one. If you get a pass without one then the tester is not doing his job properly.

It's like a rear reflector - anything small as long as it's pointing on the plate will work. But i think it has to illuminate whenever you turn the main lights on. I got those cheap 3 quid led jobbies of ebay, directed downwards. Passed the MOT no problem. Motrax do an LED light for 9.99 i think

I fitted a light bolt this week. Very easy to do and nice and discreet.

It appears the bike has passed 10 years worth of MOT's without one Neutral

Mine passed with no number plate light last week no problem. I think it's a case if it's got one it must be working, if it ain't got one it'll pass anyway.

I'll find out shortly. Bounce is about to go for its first MoT with a numberplate fitted (it's last MoT was pre-registration) and there is no way the rear light illuminates the plate.

If its a daytime only MOT then you won't need one.
If its the full MOT then yes its needed, but most rear lights have them built into them and reflect down onto the plate.

Found the empty connector for the numberplate light as it had been disconnected due to having a new tail tidy and undertray. Bought a £6.99 version of the light bolt to try as the MOT is due in a month and not feeling too confident at the moment that it'll pass with flying colours.

It's all or nothing simple as that.
If you put one light on you have to have them all.

Thats what Armstrongs of Westgate road Newcastle told me a fortnight ago.
I put a daytime MOT on my track bike. Thumbs Up
