Currently looking at a bandit 12, which to me, has high milage.

The bike currently has 55000 miles on the clock. I have no info on what work has been done, just that the bike looks tidy, is street-fightered, has a HEL oil cooler and various HEL oil pipes (cam to cam ect)

Worth risking it? what tends to go wrong on these machines?

Cheers Nick

So not high mileage then.

Probably needs a cam chain if it hasn't been done yet. Thats it.

Just about run in then Laughing

Can hardly over stress a 1200 engine on a bike. Well unless its been tracked or drag raced.

Those oil-cooled suzuki lumps tend to go on for a long time. I wouldn't be fazed by 55k miles for the engine. The chassis, electrics, general finish will usually be suffering on a standard machine although by the sounds of it that particular bike may be in great nick...

Thumbs Up

its high revs that puts wear on engines

big engines dont tend to get revved as high, so they will do more miles

little engines have to be revved all the time to go anywhere, so they wear out quicker

I wouldn't worry about the mileage, just find out what work has been done to it, the 'high' mileage could be a negotiating point.

My Fazer 600 has done 50000 miles and is just 7 years old, he has never let me down yet, 2 years ago he had only done 13000.

A bloke at work rides a bandit 12 with 85k on the clock and he says it hasnt skipped a beat and has never wanted for anything other than the usual service items. If the price is right, buy it.
