Had a fricking scary moment this morning.

Was driving this morning in Coventry quietly minding my own business when "BEEEEEEEP" and a car screeching comes to a stop next to my car at a junction.

Turned out I went right through a red light. I can remember seeing it red before I got to the junction, but it just can't have figured itself properly, or I wasn't 100% concentrating.

My heart was beating fast for the next 5 minutes, I pulled over and swore a thousand obscenities at myself i.e "you stupid fucking cunt, can't you operate a brake you n00b". Man I feel like I should give myself 3 points for that mistake. It had been red for ages. All I can say is thank god the other driver was concentrating and managed to stop. Felt like a complete tool.

Funnily enough these hayfever pills I am on have caused some weird stuff to happen over the past 3 days. I'm thinking I should probably stop taking them. They have been making me mega drowsy, which isn't helpful when i've been pretty darn drained from exams anyway!

Hayfever tablets can do that. Best avoided.
Go to a pharmacy and ask specifically for non-drowsy ones. You want those containing Loratadine.

I'd been driving on the roads for two years before I saw a traffic light while driving. I'd passed my bike test too.

I quite often just don't see them, or don't ascribe any significance to them because it is so infrequently I actually come accross the things when I am driving/riding

Lucky bar steward @ Stinkwheel.

And Jon, you realised your mistake, and admitted you are pants, that puts you a step ahead of 90% of the idiots out there, so don't feel too bad we have all done it. Glad you are still with us Wink

I think Guv kinda has a point here Shocked

Fair do's to ya for admitting your mistake Jon, but seriously, the hypocrisy in this thread is stunning.

How many 'stupid fucking cager nearly wiped me out' threads do we get on here condemning acts similar to this?

Not slating Jon, just reminding us that plenty of bikers drive cages too, so when you see one doing summit stupid/dangerous, would you say 'no worries mate, we've all done it', or would you jump on the cager-hating bandwagon?

We are all falliable as road users, whether bike, car, pushiron or pedestrian, and need to keep a sense of balance and perspective when faced with a dodgy act by another road user. Karma

Obviously the clear deliberate acts of road menace are excluded from this.

Wow, they are right, you are a complete fucking danger on the roads Jon, please return your licence to DVLA immediately with an admin cheque for £15 and a covering letter explaining that you are too damn stupid to continue driving, and could they please revoke all your licence entitlements forthwith.

I never saw any one say that.

I saw someone admit to knowing the pills he was taking were having dodgy effects on him yet still thought he could drive.

It IS a stupid thing to do.

I am an idiot, but I wouldn't even operate machinery in a quarry last time I was on pills that had effects like that, someones life for your convenience is not worth the risk.

The buses do work you know.

The whole knowing pills affects you was a bit dodgy but at least he did admit to it.

Happens to the best of us, while some do it on purpose Razz

I'm sorry. It was a pure presumption that the pills were to blame. But as I have only been on them for 4 days, I wasn't sure if I was still drained from my exams and poor sleep (I have just torn my cartiledge in my right knee, so can't sleep).

I don't think I genuinely have anything to blame. I'm just another motorist who has made a mistake, but I have admitted it and this incident was a stupid mistake. I'm sure i'm not the only person who has goine through a red light by accident or had their other half or passenger shouting "STOP!" when getting close to the light. Like I said, the red light registered however my body and mind didn't seem to react to the danger.

There are plenty of "what ifs" in this incident, but i'm here, i'm fine. Nobody is hurt, there is probably a very angry driver in the West Midlands, in which I would like to apologise too. We are all infallible, it is probably the first major mistake I have made in over 30,000 miles of driving and riding, which I don't think is too bad.

The fact that there are in my opinion too many traffic light junctions in this day and age might well have contributed to it. If you have a machine controlling the flow of traffic your average driver won't be concentrating as much on the road conditions ahead, if you had a roundabout or a standalone junction, said incident probably wouldn't have happened. But that's another thread.

Anyway, i'm now on some different hayfever pills and I won't be driving today, so you can all rest easy. Thumbs Up

Absolutely no relevance at all, but since your brought it up. Oh noes indeed. I don't pay a hefty mortgage so I can listen to some 17 year old scrote drive around the area oblivious to the fact that he is pissing everyone else off, just so he can be free to do as he likes.

He needed a word in his ear, he needed to know I meant it, and that particular character has been mighty quiet since such time.

Your point, I can barely comprehend.

It's goose btw, ffs. Wild is an adjective.

And everyone who is saying "its alright we all do it, at least you have come on to BCF and admitted it" need to have good hard long look at themselves in the mirror.

See if you can see the hypocrite staring back.

If it was a young lad on a 50 or 125 who spells things wrong, you would have all bleated on about chav scum, and had a right go.

And not one of the hypocrites has thought about the the fact that a seemingly intelligent person has taken something which he admitted was affecting him and still got into the car, it boils down to the same sort of thing as drink or drug driving. He took a substance for hay fever fair enough, but as has been said he KNEW it was having effects as well as other things.

This is not a dig at you Jon B, honestly its not, you have said it was foolish, I just wanted to point out the blatant hypocrites that gather here.

I may be a cunt but at least I am consistent.

Well done fro Jon B for realising he was in the wrong, and realising it may be due to the pills.

Bad Jon for letting it happen.

We dont all do it. Possibly going through as lights are changing but not going past without even registering that they are on red.

I think Jon should just treat his hayfever tablets as if they were booze. Not drive while he is under the influence.

Jon at least admits that his pills are affecting his driving abilities.

Many people on medication swear blind they are safe to drive, when sometimes they arent.

Mr goose is doing his best to fit the stereo type of white van man, but I know he is more than that really (deep down).
