https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/tyne/7410441.stm

The long and short of it, if you can't be arsed to click the link... A young girl was run over by a T5.

Most interestingly a spokesman for the IPCC said it was unclear whether the car's siren and warning lights were on.

Eh? Unclear? Blue lights flashing? Fucking siren wailing? Surely the murdering, impatient copper looking for an easy conviction would have known if he had put his lights and siren on?

Fuckers. And now the police use threatening language to try and quell the small demonstration of disgust that developed. Fucking twat copper, that would be dangerous driving, driving without due care and manslaughter for any of us. Let's see what this shit-thick twat will get.

Coppers, would endager and take a life to catch someone without an MOT. Fucking twat.

Marked T5, sirens or not how didn't she see that one coming?

Class 1 driver, how did he not see a pedestrian?

People have got a right to cross the road as far as I'm aware.

I bet he nailed it after this 'suspect' car and caught the lass as she was stepping into the road. 0-60 in 6.2 seconds, he could have been doing 20mph in 2 seconds, or even 10mph in 1 second. Doesn't give you a lot of time. You can't deny it or defend it, a police driver trained in pursuits, should have been aware of his surroundings, he wasn't, he was just gung-ho for the easy nick.

Sounds about right, they seem to think driving through a housing estate at 80mph is safe because they're trained police drivers and ofcourse have sirens and lights to back them up, but you cannot expect anyone to be able to react predictably to a police coming through a housing estate at 80mph, it's often not even possible to tell exactly where the sirens are coming from either, and lights are no good if you can't directly see it, during the daytime. If she was crossing the road she had every right to.

No suprise that their statement says he's been suspended and not arrested, any other driver, professional or not (taxi, truck, bus) would have immediately been arrested while it's investigated.

Not police vehicles I know, but I've seen Ambulances not using sirens when they're on a shout. Last time I noticed it was on Sunday, I was on a dual carriageway and I could see the blue lights in my mirrors. I was at some traffic lights and it came up behind me, silent. Went through the junction with just its lights on.

And a while back one crashed into my car, I was on a roundabout, again, silent running blue lights flashing pillock comes screaming onto the roundabout, piles into the back of me.

Should be more training methinks.

I believe lights and no siren indicates that they are carrying someone who has had a heart attack or similar condition that additional stress would make worse.

Errr Ambulances use blue lights and no sirens if they aren't cutting through congestion. Whenever they come up to a busy junction they will stick on their sirens to move people out of the way. No point deafening everyone for no reason.

Right the Mrs has just corrected me, A slow silent response is used on approach to an incident that could be made worse by the victim knowing that the ambulance is getting close, ie a heart attack victim, domestic violence or similar where the aggressor is still at the location etc.

They also dont use the siren at night when there is no traffic around.

It sounds like its quite common.

Nothing at all to do with deafening people! Rolling Eyes If they were slowly picking through traffic I could kinda understand, but both occasions I mentioned above, they were moving fast. Just seems like common sense to have all the 'look at me' gizmos switched to the 'on' position, hmm?

I read that he didn't have his headlights on either.

And the lasses ex boyfriend (who witnessed it) was tasered and arrested.... Rolling Eyes Mad

Sounds like the coppers were taking the piss to me. Some of the comments on that Times article are unbelievable.

What planet are these people on?

As Phoenix says, *anyone* else would've been arrested on the spot. They're clearly already making excuses too.

"Friends of the dead girl said that they saw two police cars being driven at high speed and that neither was displaying flashing blue lights or a siren. Two witnesses have also claimed that the car which hit the girl, a Volvo T5 patrol car, did not have its headlights switched on."

Sounds to me plod were hooning around the town, looking for someone, with their lights turned off.

Dangerous and stupid; but we all know how they regress into their gang mentality when they get all excited in their black jumpsuits and tasers. Seems that this was inevitable really; I've seen them driving just as recklessly on that Traffic Cops program on BBC1.

Shocked That gives the witness statements that the police cars were 'racing each other' more credit..

No wonder her boyfriend went nuts, I'd have done the same thing. The hypocrisy is amazing here! Can you imagine how many years in the clink we'd get for a similar offence? Shocked

Oh come on you know the result already...

IPPC does a review and the cop gets off 100% , because he is a cop and is a trained class 1 pursuit driver , and has higher driving abilities than all of us (yeah right).

The government feeling the heat from it will announce a review (ie brush it under the carpet and ignore it). To make it look like they are doing something.

Cop gets promoted to a higher rank.

Cop then sues the family of the girl for mental anguish as she is found 100% at fault of the collision.

A bookie won't give you 0.05-1 on that.

I don't think that statement makes it clear that he was off duty at the time, it says "he'd gone off duty" but not whether that was at the time of the incident or after.

Having read it again I think you're probably right. Not the best phrasing by that journo.

Perhaps correct, as Dom says; not the best phrasing used.

Also, the Times article claims that they were looking for a stloen car, which made me think of the times I've seen them on telly prowling around with no lights on. Only this time they seem to have been going somewhat faster. Confused

"The police car ploughed into her, sending her flying into the air. She let out a terrible scream. The police car skidded and came to a stop and then turned on its headlights and blue flashing lights.”

Another witness, Chris Broatch, 23, said that he saw the driver of the collision car climb out. “He was saying, ‘It’s all my fault’, and holding his hands up in the air.”

I can totally understand why they dont use sirens when approaching a scene of a crime. Imaging commiting a robery or something, in the middle of night, you can hear the sirens from quite far away. Easy get away.

This aint an excuse for this driver though.

Red Mick - sweet avater.

Now back to the subject.

Before we start lynching the coppers, I would like to point out that the area of Newcastle where this happened is not exactly the most prestigeous postcode on Tyneside. The proportion of people who view the police as an enemy in Fenham/West End is very high, particulary amongst the young. I would treat the statements of all the witnesses - especially the guy who said he saw the copper cry out that it 'was all his fault' with a massive pinch of salt.

Based on my knowledge of the area, and its inhabitants, I would not be surprised if the girl was pissed/drugged up and didn't have full control of her faculties. That is not to say it was her fault that she died, but we shouldn't go blaming the copper totally for the death, and believing the uncorroborated witness statements since it fits our anti establishment agenda.

Just so we're all clear here Damofo D.O.G. ...

Instead of tarring the Fuzz with the 'Lying Pig' Brush you're tarring the residents with the 'Low-Life Scum' Brush.

Personally I've given up tarring on here - it just gets too messy Wink

Kinda.

Just thought I'd add some balance when people were quoting the witnesses and essentially treating their statements as truth.

We all know the places where we live, and the parts of those places which we would consider less salubrious than others. Fenham is one such place.

There is a reason for that reputation, and we all would be lying if we said that the attitude of people is the same in all areas.

Irrespective of whether it's a bad area the copper was obviously doing an inappropriate speed, probably without blues and twos on. Additionally it seems the best justification for the speed would be that they were after someone without a tax disc (if they were pursuing a stolen car you can be sure that would have been stated already).

Any civvy would have been arrested under suspicion of death by dangerous driving immediately after the event, yet the driver wasn't.

You're right about the friends being biased witnesses but it still sounds pretty dodgy to me.

Damofo, perhaps we're just using the information provided by two seperate media outlets? Not quoting them as fact, just as reported.

Your comments about the girl being drunk or drugged up, and that her or her friends, (and also the witnesses) being lowlife scum are completely prejudiced and unfounded.
