i think my hands are going to be crippled soon. I ride my r6 daily, and my wrists are allways sore. am i the only one?

(might be because my commute is through town)

I dont think it sportsbikes. I ride my FZ6 Fazer to work everyday and I think its the commute through town aswell. I get aches in my left hand fingers more than the wrist mind you. Sometimes on long rides in urban areas it gets really bad, I think my clutch isnt that great though to be perfectly honest Sad

I only do Selsdon to Croydon.

No issues.

Picked the bike up from Southampton and only issue I had seemed to be based around holding the throttle in place for long periods on the M3.

Maybe I toss off more than you and thus have stronger wrist muscles.

Is entirely likely.

Do you have stock barends? And do you have the n00b biker 'death grip' when you ride?

Putting lots of strain on your wrists suggests you're taking weight through them which is 'bad' as far as bike control goes - your arms should be relaxed.

You should be getting a bad back, instead.

Never had a bad back but used to regularly get hip 'cramp', probably due to me having to fold my legs up like a grasshopper.

With the nekkid SV that's no longer an issue due to the low pegs but I've found the windblast does make the old neck ache. Very Happy Swings and roundabouts methinks...

I was going to say that. You're supposed to hold on with your legs and thighs, and have your arms slightly bent and completely relaxed. You should be able to do the 'funky chicken' whilst riding.

Kris, having hip/thigh ache is exactly how it is supposed to be apparently. According to CSS you've got a good technique! Smile

Yeah, it's just you girl pants. You think it's bad on an R6, try riding a mille through town, constant clutch slip and limited rear brake. Laughing

I ocassionally get hip/thigh ache/cramp, but that's about it. Used to get aching wrists for the first couple of weeks of riding my 400, but I guess that was just the n00b death grip because I didn't have the confidence.

4 remedies for that...
1. stop being a pussy!
2. grip the tank real hard with your thighs, so you dont have any weight on your hands.
3. ride no handed.
4. ride faster, real frikin fast so the wind takes the weight off!

Never had any problems on my ZX6R, nor on my ultra compact ZXR250. As everybody says, relax your arms. Most of my gripping is done with my thighs, hence why that's about the only cramp i get after doing 250 miles (like i did today through sterling and loch lomond).

"Good" speed - i.e. above 70mph will allow the wind to take pressure off your wrist and arms on the motorways.

Also, do you weight the footpegs whilst cornering, i.e. apply pressure on the inside peg, so more of the steering/control action goes to your feet. Hang off more in turns in conjunction with the peg weighting, a lot of force is also taken off your wrist.

The key is to be relaxed yet assertive. You don't want to be muscling your bike around because that's not the way to do it.

Also, wave, how good are those stomp grips if you're the type that just hangs off through the twisties? I hear they're not too good if you're wearing jeans/textiles?

rode all day yesterday with a pillion wear jeans, they helped alot in keep the pillion weight off my nuts when braking.
they are a bit annoying in jeans, but better than sliding a hitting nuts.

I hang off alot in twisties and it benifits you, if your body position is right and you use the opposing leg with grip the side of the tank.

Not had a problem with it yet, but I keep my weight on the pegs, and grip the tank with my knees.

And before anyone says, no I don't have a sports bike, but I do have clip ons on my 250, so that gives a similar feeling through the wrists.

Cheers
John

What's bar ends got to do with anything? Confused
having aftermarket bar ends that are the wrong weight fitted can cause excess vibration and provoke pain in hands/wrists.

I just got the CBR600RR 1st full power bike so im abit n00bish with it atm, My clutch hand hurts cause im not used to gripping the lever, my wrists abit cause I know I have been putting too much weght on them, but Ill get used to it after a time, Ive not ridden for a year or so, but its all coming back to me.

Just try and not put weght on your wrists if you can help it, as for the clutch thing, thats just something you have to live with but with me when I 1st got the SV after just a week or so you get used to it and I think some muscle tone builds up and it doesnt ache anymore.

Aftermarket bar ends do make a big difference on many bikes, however these tend to be twins and singles more than fast-revving 4s which tend to be quite smooth.
