As Mr. C said, it can be carcinogenic which is a bad idea.

As for latex gloves being crap and splitting, I suggest you get yourself some Mutexil gloves. Razz

Gloves are for girls Razz Might have to invest in some swarfega then, although my boss uses some stuff he bought from macro or something thats got orange extract in it, its a dedicated hand cleanser and it's supposed to be good. Might try them both and see which is best.

For the hassle involved now, and the hassle it can save you later it'd defintly be worth using barrier cream and swarfega. Thumbs Up

I'll be dead by the time I'm 25 anyways. I will end up getting some mothersucker of a bike and wrapping it round a tree somewhere.

I work at a printers and our hands get really filthy, mostly covered in printing ink which is the most stubborn thing to get off your hands.

All we use is some industrial hand cleaner with little beads in. No matter what you get on your hands i.e paint, ink, grease etc. using that and a nail brush gets it off so we don't have to mess about with barrier cream or gloves.

Should be able to buy it at a place like makros or somewhere?
Oh and swarfegas alright, it works but not nearly as well. You look at the grooves in your skin and you could still see the dirt in there.

Yams: Not easily I'm afraid. We only keep sample stock in the warehouse here, and we don't get many latex gloves here so I can't get hold of them easily. I can give you details of a stockist in your area though Razz

always use a barrier cream - every day.

Barrier cream is great, I used to use it at TTI where we had to wear cotton gloves to handle components. However, I hated the smell of it, plus it's not always easy to get hold of.

For normal oil etc, I find that vaseline is as good as anything, make sure you rub it right under your nails, around your cuticles, and on all your joints.
As Mr C said, get some moisteriser too - not only does it help your hands to recover, but any muck that is left on will work loose more easily with (very nice, very)moist hands.

Bleach and a scrubber will also get it off. But watch out for those cuts Shocked ouch. If you do this you might want to use soap afterwards as the bleach stinks.

Also Halfords sell some stuff, cant remember the name (i think its the same as mentioned above) that comes in a tub and that works a treat but works out expensive if you work on your bike a lot.

Hi

If you go to the various bike shows you can normally get the latex gloves for around £10 for 300.

The latex ones are good in some way, but they do not work well when they get petrol on them. Also some people are allergic to latex. You can also get vinyl gloves which are far stronger but tend not to fit quite as well.

All the best

Keith
