G mentioned this idea but hasn't posted it up yet so I am Razz

You know how you had image packs which were mirrored on peoples webspaces... well, would it be possible to set it so you can have the image pack on your hard drive, with *every* image used by BCF. You can say do weekly/or every fortnight updates for when avatars etc change.

This would save on bandwith, would make page loading times much faster, and us office slackers wouldn't be creating nearly as many hits on the proxy Laughing

Don't see why not, but you couldn't do it for avatars - they change too often and it'd descend into a mess of broken image icons.

That'd be ok, cos we can just disable avatars if wanted Smile

One idea could be to say store which images the user has somewhere.
Then when the page is created any that are still the same as the server versions have their URL subsituted with a local one, while any that are now out of date locally are kept with the original URL until the user next downloads a pack.

Obviously there would have to be a cookie on the PC to say that the particular pc had the appropriate files etc...
So that it won't look weird if you log in from another PC etc.

Will need to store the location the files are kept somewhere as well really.

Style sheets could also be cached as this usually takes a fair bit of bandwidth etc.
