Best 10w40 engine oil-4stroke

Ok folks, gonna give the gixxer an oil change & Filter since i bought it.

Done oil changes before, but whats the best, money no object, as i want the best out of it.

Castrol, Putoline, Rock oil, Mobil, Silkolene?

I would just go for any bike approved oil, just because you pay more for it does not mean its any better.....

If you want to pay loads, then buy from you loacl bike shop and not a motor factor such as Halfords

Yeah thanks chaps, always bought Castrol for the blade before.

Just wanted other opinions on other oils.

Any of the top brands I think are pretty much all as good as the other. There is definately a difference in cheaper oils as I used Motul for a while from Heine Gericke due to the free filter offer, stopped using it a while ago and went back to Silkolene and the gearchange has improved significantly.

Ross cornered me in his shop once and lectured me about oil ,

I came away with several thoughts:

Cheaper oil often is recycled stuff

Cheaper oil has less additives in it the minimum required.

YMMV of course but I put Shell VSX into me NTV and it took 2300 miles for it to go black , NTVs are incredibly hard on oil and normal plutine 4T ST oil in it, which goes black at 1400 miles (silkolene goes black at 900 miles). Motul I once used went black in 300 miles.

Silkolene website will tell you what's what, the comp is semi-synth and super fully synthetic, not sure on Pro. But you just want the 10w40 semi-synth for 4strokes which I'm sure is the Comp 4, start messing with fully synth and you risk introducing clutch slip and maybe small oil leaks and i'm not sure there is any benefit to it.

Would the 0w40 Mobil 1 fully synthetic that Costco sell for about £24 inc vat for 4 litres be any good for bikes ?

It's car oil and althought it'd work you're supposed to be using 10w40 not 0w40. Plus fully synth car oil in a bike with wet clutch, might work alright, might not. Most bike oils are about £28.

I've used Castrol Power1 superbike with no ill effects(yet) in the track bike.

I was just lookin at the different oils on the Halfords web site and was wondering between these 2 (Car & Bike Oils)

Mobil Super S 10w/40 5 Litres £23.99, Semi Synthetic Motor Oil
and
Halfords Motorcycle Engine Oil 10w/40 5 Litres £21.99, Part Synthetic

Would I be right in thinking that the Mobil Super S would be the better buy even though it doesn't mention motorcycles?

Halfords oil is Esso/Comma

Mobil 1 MX4T. My bike has used this since it had about 10,000 miles on it.. & the inside of the engine looks new. Altho they have been checked, the valves haven't needed any adjustments for the past 50,000 miles.. & it doesn't use any oil between changes, in 81,000 miles I doubt it has used more than a pint in total...
