Hi,
The choke lever appears to be doing nothing on my TL. Now, I know that they aren't mechanical like on a bike with carbs, but what does it actually do when you turn the choke lever bit?
Going to have to have a look at it all after work, as it wouldn't start this morning as I couldn't give it any choke.

Erm... Don't most fuel injected bikes have an automatic choke?
My bike richens the mixture automatically until the engine temperature reaches a certain point. You can modify the temperature at which this happens too!
I don't see the need for a choke on an FI bike, I'm not even sure where it would go in the system really...
I have to point out that I would have thought that Suzuki would put an auto choke style piece of software in the ECU and if they haven't then you have a very basic injection system indeed...

Maybe its because now you have the TL back, it /feels/ like you're a new biker!

i know injection engines as a rule have a 'cold start' instead of choke
this can either be an extra squirt of fuel of a cut back on air intake hence richening the mixture ....if thats any help ____________________ live bikes breathe bikes and sleep with bikes! |

Hi
Fuel injected cars normally use an idle control valve. On older systems this was often a throttle bypass controlled by a bimetallic strip, with a heater. This way as the engine ran the heater warmed the strip up, closing off the bypass after a short while. When started from warm the engine heat would close it. More mordern engines use a throttle bypass controll by a small stepper motor.
The fuel mixture is just dependent on the various temperature, and the bike should be mapped for it so that the mixture is richened up when required.
The "choke" on a bike is almost certainly just a manually controlled bypass to the throttle body, to allow a little more fuel in.
