Wally you wouldn't happen to know ( about) how much a set of chrome or alloy rims and a set of new spokes and nipples would cost do you ? and also if I would be able to get them from the Stafford show in oct?
Could get my grand dad to lace them up ect, which is were the costs mount up from wheel builders ive heard.
Cheers

Right I have now got £180 saved , I am going to the stafford show on Saturday to buy some more parts/ a new project.
Still can't decide if I should make the Colt Like new ( Ie new chrome parts ect) or spend my money on another project bike ( something a bit newer) 1970 onwards Ect and have 2 nice but not mint bikes.
Or one old mint condition bike
If I am going to spend the money on the colt I will be buying the following:
Front number plate
New rear tyre , road type.
New chrome leavers.
New chrome headlight rim.
Battery box lid. ( Old one flew off on the way to a show )
Single seat.
Rear chrome carrier.
Rear foot rest rubbers.
Split link, lost the other one yesterday. (needed)
Half round spedo.
New Gear leaver , Chrome.
New kick start, chrome.
New fork shrouds , chrome.
kickstart rubber.
New exhaust front pipe.
New tank badges.
New chrome tank badge surrounds.
New chrome Tank ridge lip cover thing.
New chrome wheel rims , spokes and nipples
Ah choices choices. |

Its very satisfying to get new bits for a bike and stare at them all clean and shiny. ____________________ Current : MSX 125 Past : CBR 900RR Monkeybike : c50 LAC : ZXR750 H2 : FZR600 : ZX7R P3 : YW100 : TRX850: Trophy 900 T309 : GSXR 600 L0: Monkeybike : XJ6S Whosthedaddy |

Yea, couldn't agree more there mate ! Like Christmas , only better.
Just fitted the headlight rim , tax disk holder, new leavers, new headlight dip switch, pillion footrest rubbers and test fitted the seat's , the front one seems ok, I will just have to make up some brackets for the springs , the back one is going to be a bit more tricky as there is a big bracket right in the way , but I'm sure if I can't work something out my dad will be able to.
Next on my list of things to buy are some water slide transfers with the Ariel logo on ( going to go near the bottom of the tank on the middle white strip), and also a minimum oil level one , just finishing touches really , making the bike look more finished as apposed to just looking quite plain.
Will up date the thread with pictures when I get the seat's on.
Cheers. |

Wotcha.
That's the first time I've ever seen a carburettor turned through ninety degrees. Is that standard on the Colt or some kind of strange inlet manifold ?
All you need now is a nice little Smiths "D" shaped speedo ____________________ Cheers.

You do realise that they will suffer from these same problems? Haha, I jest jamie. Really impressive restoration though! I don't think I'd have the patience to do something like that now at the age of 22 let alone when I was 14!
Seriously though, to re-itterate what everyone else is saying, I'd really try to keep it. Some new tires (not knobblies - more road biased rubber) would help the handling and breaking a lot, so you may get use of it in a year (or whenever you get your license). Or alternatively sell it to someone who you know (family, family friend etc) so that there's always the chance that you may be able to buy it back at some point (like when you get a job in a few years or something). Seriously, you'll probably kick yourself in 10 years though if you don't hold onto it!

Why is there not an airfilter fitted, and why is the carb sucking in from the side?, from the original pictures the filter sits behind the head. What happened to the head?, that broken fin i mean. Tidy up the wiring and those other items and i`m sure you`ll get a buyer, still you`ve done one hell of a job and the paint looks stunning.- -Jockey. ____________________ Current bike VFR 400 R NC30, others now gone. |
