So, are they any good? I am looking to get a commuter bike as I am racking to many miles up on my R1. Are they prone to anything? Are the engines rubbish/good?

What are are they like? I have never heard of them before.

I had an RF600 for a couple of years. Things to look out for.
Corrosion on the downpipes.
Cracking on the front discs
Seized camchain tensioner
Steel frame so look for corrosion
Fastener corrosion
Fairing panel grilles coming loose (cosmetic)

Generally a good bike for distance. Comfortable.

Had an 06 GSXR750 and a 55 ZX6R since then but I think i have covered it all.

My old man has one, he's had alot of bikes and he absolutely loves it.

Mind his one was polished more than it was ridden and meticulously cared for from new so dunno about things to look out for.

It will cruise easily, has an accomodating fairing, and has a 953cc engine that is tuned well enough that you can really shift on itmy uncle rides a brand new GSXR 1000 and was very impressed.

I know I'm biased but from first hand experience this bike is the (very underrated) dogs bollocks.

This should help:

https://www.new.facebook.com/home.php#/group.php?sid=cdd8f4f37672e618ec6255f681d814bb&refurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.new.facebook.com%2Fs.php%3Fref%3Dsearch%26init%3Dq%26q%3DRF900%26sid%3Dcdd8f4f37672e618ec6255f681d814bb&gid=6233596094

A word to the wise though, the front brakes are a bit....eccentric. 2x wavy discs and 3 pot Tokicos.

Hmm, it sounds quite good from what some people are saying, I have asked the chap selling the RF for corrosion parts, so I will wait and see on that point, thanks for the tip.

Excentric brakes huh, sound good to me, that means I can practice my endos... Very Happy

I quite like the RF900's...in spite of the rear light that Suzuki quite obviously nicked off the Starship Enterprise! They go well and, considering their size, are quite agile too.

Oh...and the pic of that Yoshimura blue and white painted one that Moonie posted looks the absolute nuts.

LOL, yeah I quite agree there, I suppose you could call it defined.

Quite agree, I am actually going to base the bike on those colours as it looks wicked in that pic. Here is the colour of the bike I might be getting....Laughing

lol, yeah I WILL change the colour, not really into pink that much, I showed my mate at work, he laughed at the colour scheme...A lot.....Oh I just got an insurance quote on it, I was only loking for TP only as I could not give a toss if it gets nicked or I smash it up.

TP only £120
TPF&T £141
FC £171

I probably can get it cheaper, but, fooking hey! I wish insurance is always that cheap.

You got a pic of your Dads bike?

Turns out those brakes were afterbarket items now in the hands of aformentioned uncle.

Needs a polish at some point, it's got a Micron race can on it too and heated grips Confused , both fitted by previous owner.

The top middle light is the rear light, the whole lot glows really bright when you brake. Nobody will EVER drive up the back of you lol.

The mohican's there, just flat, I'm having a lazy day lol.

Yeah it's in pretty good nick. Although someone pinched a bar end the other night Confused

Click the attatchment and theres a big pic with the front brakes in it, he's put the standard ones back on now, 2 pot nissin calipers.

tbh mate if your looking for something to fill the void of an R1 whilst cruising I reckon you'll love it.

Yeah I was thinking the same actually, spoken to a few others about it and they said do it. It a solid bike that has a strong engine, I would not care if I crashed it, so it gives me an opertunity to practice wheelies and endos before i try it on the R1. Also saves my milage on the R1, which is the whole point of a 2nd bike.

Thanks for your views on it, you have sold it to me! Thumbs Up Very Happy

this is getting a bit weird.......

I was looking through a few dealer web sites, and fond an RF600 for quite cheep, so was considering buying it, but was pipped to the post......

Then i went for the bandit's M.O.T the other day, got chatting to the bloke n asked him if he knew of any RF's for sale..... a bloke had just brought a 900 in that ad been stood in his garage and was wanting to sell... on that very day....

and now this post arrives on BCF..........

Could this constitute a sign????? Karma spooky!
