I just got a Yamaha XJS600 Seca II (my first bike). It's been running fine, no problems for a couple of months but yesterday as soon as I turned it on the blue wire emanating from the ignition heated up and burned, actually burst into flames.

There are three wires coming out from underneath the ignition casing: a brown, a red, and a blue. The blue one is the one that burned.

Could anyone tell me what would cause that and whether replacing the ignition would take care of it, or would the overload come from somewhere else?

Here's a photo in case I'm not making sense. The blue wire is burned.

Hi

Looking in the manual the light blue cable seems to power the lighting circuit. Have you got an over size headlight bulb in the bike (eg, 100w). I had in my old FZ750 for a while and this melted the ignition switch wiring on that.

All the best

Keith
