Right, its back together and it starts not bad for a novice.
Had to enlist help from almac to get one of the R&G's off, the feckin nut rounded and had to cut the bolt and replace.
Almac also sorted the cowl at the back as the plastic clips had snapped off, so he made new ones
Anyway, the back frame was pretty rusty, just the design of it, all the shit from the back wheel coming up and the front was a bit rough looking too. So seemed a good first job to give the bike a lift. All I did was the frame, nothing else.
Apologies for the following pictures, not sure what the camera was up to, could not possibly have been me with shaky hands
I forgot to take a picture right at the start, so this first one see's me pretty well on with the rubbing down, so it does not as bad at this point.

I then treated it all with rust remover, hammerite gel, magic stuff, brush on, turns green, brush off, bare metal left

Then started to prepare the bike for painting. Sorry really rough photo.

And to cut a long story short, the results. And no, I did not paint the back wheel, thats dust off the garage floor before anyone starts

And just to prove I could even put it all back together

As I say, just a quick job to get in behind the riding of my first big bike. And added a few years on to the frame too ____________________ Current - 2007 Suzuki Bandit GSF1250 - 1999 Suzuki TL1000R

Nice... That looks quite tidy
Personally I'd have removed the subframe before painting though, could have made the job that little bit more thourough and probably easier. |

Getting hands dirty already eh? Good job.
2 things. ACF50 is the nuts for getting a bike through a rough winter, it's not cheap though, I got a can off ebay, brand new, here:
https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=320284488095
Google it, ACF50, it was developed for the aviation industry as a rust inhibitor, the can still has images of planes and helicopters on it. It washes off with a good 'spray on rinse off' bike cleaner after the winter, water/salt water won't touch it, it's 10 times better than WD40 and stays on all winter. (DON'T get any on your brakes though, bag them up while you apply it, the tiniest amount on a disc will take a whole can of cleaner to get it off the pad)
Secondly, the green gel, from hammerite yeah? How much does it cost and where did you get it from? ____________________ Current bike:- Suzuki GS500 '02 plate. Next bike CBR600F or GSX650F. I'll leave the race reps to the kids.

Cool, thanks for that, I was looking for a can of spray to put on the bike to protect and I could not remember the name, and thats it ^^
The gel you can get at any auto store, halfords and so on, its about £5 for a big enough tub to do the entire bike twice.
For the very small ackward bits use Kurust, its an acid which converts rust to a solid useable surface ready for painting in about an hour without too much fuss. You can do this on the the bigger areas as well but you dont get as good a finish. ____________________ Current - 2007 Suzuki Bandit GSF1250 - 1999 Suzuki TL1000R
