Was doing around 80 down the bypass, and the limit now - thanks to a some daft old woman crossing the central reservation and killing herself and a bunch of kids - is only 50 (even though they put great big tank busters in the CR...talk about overkill).

No other traffic around, so i'm merrily on my way but as i come round the curve (not bendy enough to be called a bend) i spy a bloody speedtrap van thing.

On with the brakes and pootle past at 50.

Now, assuming they must have caught me for that brief moment over the limit but obviously didn't get my number till i went past, should i still expect something nasty in the post?

I still think these vans are terribly unsporting. It's just simply not cricket.

Yeah, I for one sit up all night worrying about people I've never met off an internet forum. They might go 20mph over the speed limit and kill a small child, or god forbid, a box of abandoned kittens!

Why not? They would have got the speed reading from as soon as he came into view, on the vans now there are cameras on the side and front of the van to get motorcycle registration numbers as well.

They have 14 days to post the NIP so after 3 weeks and you don't heat anything you should be safe.

Wasn't there something about these vans not being able to get bikes? And an article on the BBC where the Leicestershite constabulary were working on a van that could... Might be worth looking into Thumbs Up

Doh! I guess this was the eastern ring road just shy of the green road roundabout? If so one of the lads who works for me thought he got done down there at the weekend in his mini as well!

Can't really offer you any advice, that stretch of road begs you to go over 50 and I for one have always struggled to stay within the limits along there.

The other place to watch out for locally is the bottom of Headington Hill, you can free wheel down there and be done, as I was a couple of years ago!

Bad luck, fingers crossed there's nothing in the post!

Yup, that's the kiddie. Always careful of the Headington one, but until yesterday i'd not seen one on that bit of the bypass.

As you say, it's definitely not a 50 road. It is ridiculous. I've been on country roads rated 60 that are more dangerous to speed on, and in all my years i've never seen one accident down there. Putting a van there is the perfect example of blatant money making and abso-bloody-lutely bvgger all to do with safety.

If they caught only 10 people an hour, and sat there for 3 hours, then that will generate £1800. Not bad for a few hours work Rolling Eyes

Fingers, and toes, suitably crossed. Cheers, Stav.

And cheers for all the replies everyone, and thanks for your concern, Jai466, but i am a big boy now Wink

If that is what I think it is ie: a Laser Jammer then I understand it's illegal, even if it does open garage doors.

So don't get caught with it.

No fear, Kal, I wouldn't dream of having something illegal as that.

The fact that i just couldn't afford one anyway is neither here nor there.

Or over here.
