Hi i hav recently bought myself a Aprilia RS125 GP1 as a project it had a fair few things wrong with it but now i hav got most of it started and i started it up for the first time today!!!
But when i started it up today the bike rev's went straight up to 11000rpm and was sticking and just kept sittin at 11000rpm i hav checked the idiling screw and turned it down 3/4's and should be revving at around 2000rpm and it doesnt change just stay's at 11000rpm!!
I was wondering if anyone has a clue on what might be wrong and how to sort it??? All help greatly appreciated!! Cheers Dez

Hi

Sounds like the cable is trapped. Check the throttle is closed in the carb, and check that the cable is not catching on anything. It is possible (from memory) to put the carb slide in the wrong way round, and it will just about fit but will not close.

Also check for air leaks after the carb, especially the 2 stroke oil pipe (if plenty of work has been done to the bike then it would be easy to disturb this).

The idle speed adjuster works by changing how far down the carb slide can go. If the slide is being prevented from returning to position (from a snagged cable, etc) then the idle speed adjuster will not have any effect.

All the best

Keith
