I passed my CBT on Saturday, and have been riding my brand new YBR125 to work and back (25miles each way) obviously cruising at 55 has the revs up at 7.5k and redline is 10, how 'robust' are bike engines? i'd never sit at massively high revs in my car but everyone seems to do it on bikes without problems, 60mph is around 8.2k rpm, would this be ok on the engine?

Is a redline every now and again a bad thing?

(p.s run in period is over)

Thanks for input.

They are designed to run at that sort of speed but in the longer term a bigger bike will be so much more relaxed with a run like that.
You should be looking at 600s maybe.
In the meantime keep on top of maintenance particularly oil changes.

I only passed the CBT last Sat, i'll ride the 125 for a year or so and get the DAS done for a bigger bike, i know it'd be nicer on a bigger bike but it's just not an option right now, fuel consumption is lol, currently done 150miles on this tank and still have 3/4 left! woo.

it's a 125 which isn't chinese. If anything goes wrong before 40k i'd be suprised.

On those IIRC there's no filter so drain the oil off every few thousand miles and refill it, lube the chain every couple of days and adjust correctly (use old oil as chain lube) and you'll be fine. You'll crash it before it breaks.

I have sat at 10k rmp for miles, 10k in top gear is 80mph, so about motorway speeds. Although that isn't that close to the redline so it isn't too bad.

You bike will be fine, I use to thrash my 125 to and between college and it was always fine. Just keep on top of the oil changes and keep the chain in order and it will be fine.

I hope you are enjoying biking Wink

Relatively that is sitting at 3/4 of the available revs. No different to sitting at 4500rpm in the car which I certainly wouldn't worry about.

All the best

I went on a Bike-Safe course couple weeks back an they told me to use higher revs an lower gears, if they do it an their bikes are fine then I see it as my bike will be fine.

I was told the bikes are tested at a higher rev mark than the red line before being manufactured

Follow regular servicing (oil, chain lube etc) and warm the bike before thrashing it and it should be fine.

Extended high(ish) revs at part open throttle isn't too stressful really.

One guy on here has a 125 with over 60k on it!
