I've been riding since I was 13 years old
done some racing
had some f**king awful accidents
broke my neck
shattered my face
smashed my skull
snapped arms and legs
removed most of my teeth chewing a curb
but I still ride
I now have, as you know a hyosung GV 650 cruiser, but today I laid some floor boards for my son
I'm 39 but after that I feel 70
my knees are killing me so I can hardly walk my back hurts and I'm shuffling about like an old man and I'm supposed to be going back to my sons tomorrow to hang some wall paper
but it fills me with dread just thinking about getting out of bed
I will never stop riding but IS IT WORTH IT?

Hi

How much of that pain is just from age and levels of fitness?

All the best

its the crashing not the riding thats a problem

if you havnt crashed for a while, and dont expect to crash again, you are ok

if the one eye is causing a few of the crashes, it might be worth giving up

Clearly fitting the floor was the issue not riding the bike, I'd give up the other stuff before I gave up the bike. Thumbs Up

Probably not.
Thatcher stopped the free milk for schoolkids.

Perfectly possible to ride on the road without crashing. Might not be quite as exciting.
Less easy on track though plenty manage it. Even while on crutches for an extended period last year I'd still say "it was worth it" - I knew the risks before I started the race and decided it was worth it then, nothing had changed after.

I'm 26 years old,
died twice,
have broken my back in two places,
took a year to walk after intensive physical therapy,
have broken every rib down my left side,
half the ribs on my right side,
fractured my skull four times which has left me with memory problems,
broken both wrists twice,
have arthritis in pretty much every part of my body although it's worse in my shoulders, knees, back and wrists,
dislocated my shoulders and knees countless times.

I'm still riding and loving every minute of it....

Will I ever regret the amount of injuries?

Probably definitely.

Will I ever regret being on a bike?

Never

Maybe you guys should crash less, or learn to use brakes.

Bikerchick, you should die less. It's not healthy.

I've been riding for 6 years, on the road daily and 5 trackdays.

I've fell off once in my first week and knocked off when filtering a few months later, since then, nothing, although a few close calls on road and track.

You don't have to crash to ride, it's a lot more fun when you don't die a lot, you just need some skills init.

So yeah, it's worth it.

Why'd you lose all your teeth eating a kerb? Open face helmet? (guessing due to cruiser type) never understood the point of wearing one of those.

I quite fancied you originally, but i can see that you're probably going to need an awful lot of looking after in your old age. So if you want a relationship with me i'm afraid it's going to have to be just sex while you're able, and no commitment beyond that. Thumbs Up

Thanks for the offer though Wink

didn't have a cruiser at the time and was wearing a full face helmet
Female driver pulled out of a T junction in front of me I was doing approx 40 mph and came to a sudden stop
over the car bonnet and face first in to the curd sliding along it on my face for approx 20 yards before performing a back flip and landing on my back on the pavement with my lower jaw round by my left ear
laying there drowning in my own blood the driver runs over to me and asks that well know question "are you all right mate sorry I didn't see you" fortunately (sort of) I remained conscious and was able to roll on to my side thus stopping my self drowning

removed must of my upper teeth and had a bar inserted into my lower jaw to hold every thing together but after several years the stretch marks have gone and I'm only ugly not butt ugly Wink

Obviously you've left out 'impaired vision' from your list. Cool
