Just wondered if any of you have a smaller number plate than the 9" x 7" legal plate???

If so what size and have you ever been pulled for it?

Never been pulled with an 8 x 6, nor a 7 x 5.

My dad was done on an 8 x 2. I think it's more the single line plates you are likely to get done for.

I've had an 8x2 which earned me 3 or 4 £30 fines. (Only when I've been pulled for doing something else though, never been pulled just for the plate):

https://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff267/yellaninja/Yellow%20ZX7R/7r3.jpg

Then I had a 2 liner, albiet still illegal (Not sure what size). Been pulled a few times with this plate (Again, not pulled just because of the plate). It was mentioned by the Police a couple of times but not fined:

https://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff267/yellaninja/Red%20ZX7R/DSCN0161.jpg

Then a few weeks ago the undertray came off at 150+ Shocked Never saw the number plate again so now I've got MOT sized plate Embarassed

I think lllN30lll is the master of small/dodgy number plates anyway Laughing

thankyou Laughing

i'll start off with my favourites Thumbs Up

firstly "The Sherminator" one of my first bikes Laughing this was a small plate mounted into a motor (basically a B&Q twist drill) with the forward/reverse switch wires extended and the switch mounted into my clocks, when flicked, it went from this..

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v707/lllN30lll/dayoutwithsean003.jpg

to this

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v707/lllN30lll/MyPictures0051.jpg

then the Srads
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v707/lllN30lll/piccy-0032111.jpg

was like that until I got knocked off, so ordered a new shotgun undertray, motrax adjustable tail tidy. and ended up with a hinged plate that I could fold under.
from https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v707/lllN30lll/piccy-0318.jpg

to
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v707/lllN30lll/piccy-0319.jpg

then the R1 (some peoples favourite)

think it was a 2 x 5 plate, or 1.5 x 4, can't remember, again, mounted via a Motrax adjustable tail tidy ( slighly modified) mounted onto the lower pillion peg bolts.

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v707/lllN30lll/piccy-0523.jpg

now, i'm the the GSXR I had to think of another idea, one I hadn't done ( or even seen TBH ) quick call to Rorys plates and he made me a Decal plate up, made from the same reflective yellow as normal plates.

so the gixxer's OEM tail tidy was dumped, holes grommeted. pegs removed and got this.

Couldn't disagree more. I literally cringe (Everytime) at the size of the legal plate stuck on the back of my bike ATM. It totally ruins the aesthetics of my bike.

7x6 I think I have - Cant remember :/
I was told tho (and how true this is I dont know) but within the next couple of months all number plater makers must make the legal size.
How true this is I dont know, I see many different sized plates everyday and some are really small.

Tis true. It'll be illegal to manufacture or sell number plates that don't conform to the law.

Don't think it'll stop anyone from importing them though.

You're a cunt, I've been planning to do exactly that (but have it flip up rather than around) for yonks now.0
I guess now that I've ordered this 8.98 x 1.97 (228mm x 50mm) beauty I'll just have to knock up something special Very Happy
https://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n243/MacKaliba/Best_RVF_reg.png

Best thing is that the plate its replacing is'nt even standard sized, should have failed me my MOT but the rear light did instead Laughing .

I think I win this thread though, as in the early hours of Sunday morning my freshly fixed bike with a crisp new clutch that was'nt MOT'd or Taxed did'nt even exist... I could'nt see a Registration plate anywhere, neither could the riot van that I shot passed while hooning about Twisted Evil
https://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n243/MacKaliba/Revival001.jpg

Karma got me back though, failed an MOT for the rear light being wobbly (I knew this was going to fail but will have it retested) But now the bike dunny wanna start, so hopefully these new spark plugs will sort all my woes Dance!

P.S Sorry for the Thread HiJack Mr. Green Karma

The RS I bought came with the next size down from legal and a weird slogan.

https://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm255/DeclanJ/13042006282.jpg

It's a shame that the L plate out shadowed it. I never got pulled with this plate and haven't been pulled at all in fact despite having 2 peds in London.

Since I've had this smaller plate, every time I look at a legal plate it makes me sick Laughing

Had a go on a mates ped and the big plate just looked 'wrong'.

Thumbs Up

That is absolutely awesome!! Cool
How did you stop it over/under rotating so the plate would never show when you didn't want it to?

there was a big bolt through the undertray that stopped it.

Can't believe you've never been nabbed for that plate N30!

Cosmetically it does look great though, agreed when somebody said a numberplate ruins the rear end of the bike.

I've never been pulled for a plate. I've already been pulled over and a copper has pulled up, that was 2 hours after picking up my 636. I count the one on my 636 as quite big even if it's still illegal. I had a one liner on my VFR for a year and nobody said a single word, even when I'd been pulled for a seperate offence.

Interesting - I got pulled up by a copper and he checked my bike over (as they do), then congratulating me on having a legal sized plate as otherwise he would have "done" me for it too. I guess it's just down to the individual at the end of the day.

as i see it, if i can afford a 30 quid fine ( and there's nothing obvious on my bike thats illegal ) i don't care about having a small plate.

i now have a legal sized plate sticker just like N30 has, tried putting it on but it doesn't show up to well.

if it's legal size and you can read the plate from 10 meters away does that mean it's legal? i can't remember who told me that but i'd like to know.
