HELP New too biking... just got myself a Yamaha TDR 125...

Ive picked up a tdr 125 with a power value... not sure if i got a good price for it as i wasnt after this bike orginally... I paid £900 for it and its a 96 model on an N Reg...

But im very happy with the bike itself so far... except the previous owner didnt have a service manual for it.... which i could really do with as i dont know a great deal about bikes... i ran out of petrol today and i dont intend making that mistake again... having cars pass me at 50 miles an hour while im trying to push the bike up the side bank didnt make me feel too clever... but there doesnt seem to be a petrol gauge and im preaty sure i didnt have a light come on to tell me it was running low... can any 1 help me could do with some questions i have answered... For a 2000 model ,dont know if there are many differences.
Use the odemeter or trip reset it each time you fuel.

Had you used up the reserve in the fuel tank as well? I'd hate to think you'd went through all that, when you could have just turned the fuel tap to reserve and probably made it to a petrol station.

i used to have a tdr 250, that was real thirsty, i was just dead careful with watchin the fuel keep a real good eye on it and make sure you don't keep the tank on reserve constantly or you'll end up pushin it everywhere.

Thanx for your replies... No i didnt use the reserve i didnt know nothing about it till lateron in the evening that night after speaking to a friend of mine that knows a thing or two about bikes... So not that i intend doing that again... but if that does happen again il be bloody sure to use it...lol

Another question i have is when i start the bike up i seem to aways have to kick start the bike... well i say always but definalty the first time i go to use it in the morning... is that normal or could the battery be on the way out or is it because when i use the bike im normally only going short distances so the battery aint getting a good enough run... ?

I Probably sound like a simpleton...lol

I've got a TDR myself - they are great little bikes. Top fun to hoon around on and the twin headlights make for ace nighttime riding

You do have a reserve tank, and you should get around 100 miles normally with another 20 on reserve. You need to turn the fuel tap to activate reserve but remember to turn it back to ON afterwoods

mine was a 93 electric start model. Got 41,000 miles on it now lol

Yh i use the choke... i think it started first time this morning on the button... i think its just me getting use to the bike...

ive bin told the reserve button is that round silver knob theres no indication on it to let me know wether its on or off... it does turn but only a fraction.... there is a red arrow on it which is pointing almost to the split between the panels... which is practically pointing backwards to the back wheel... When i say it moves a fraction i mean a fraction... which im thinking its made no difference... does anybody know if i have to pull the turning knob... or push it in and turn it... and what position it should be for off an on...

I dont wanna just fcuk about with it as i can be a bit heavy handed... (wish i had got a manual for it, will be getting one tho hopefully)

were you not shown the reserve/petrol tap on your CBT? Wife did hers 2 weeks ago and it was covered in the training.
