What is the average revs the nsr 125 has to be at to pull off successfully? Mine seems to be at around 5000/6000 otherwise is looses acceleration and dies on me (unless the clutch is pulled in to keep the engine running)

That’s why I asked 'on average' I got about 5 different set's of rev's the last time I asked this which doesn’t help me much.

I can't really see their answers changing TBH, so I don't see how it's going to help much. You might as well take all five answers and work out the average.

It would be more worth while taking it to a garage and asking them to look at it.

But here's no point taking it to a garage if there's nothing wrong with it. I was asking to get other peoples opinions and to figure out if there is anything to worry about with mine. If I took it to a garage they would say leave it here and we will have a look at it, then I would get a bill. I can't afford a bill right now unless I really do have to have something looked at!

Its a 2 stroke, they are crap at low revs so thats why you have 2 rev it alot more than a 4 poke, i rev my RS 2 about 4-5k or so.

Thanks. I don't think there is anything wrong with mine, I was just checking because some people's only need to be taken up to 2k and they will go. If I tried that with mine from a standing start it would die on me. Sad

Like your bike by the way, looks nice in that colour scheme.

2k would definitely kill the bike - I can do it on my XJ900 no probs but considering tickover on an NSR is 1500rpm you have no power there at all. 3k+ I think is reasonable but 4k is much easier!

4-5000 revs, slip the clutch, that should do it no probs. Mine will move from 3000 revs. 4-5000 and slip the clutch Thumbs Up

To get any kind of semi-decent acceleration it needs to be a redling clutch slipping affair really.
It will bog down to some degree unless you do that because there's not much ridrange torque.

Hi

I would not expect it to die at 2000~3000, although the acceleration would be pathetic. However remember that the NSR (along with most 2 strokes) uses a slide carb. If you just give it full throttle at low revs then the gas speed in the carb will be so low that the carb will basically not work. Next to no fuel will be drawn into the air, and what is drawn in will be poorly atomised. Basically you need to feed the throttle in gently. To get it to pull from around 2000~3000 revs you probably want to be using less than 1/3 throttle.

All the best

Keith
