Used engine oil is this any good got tons of the stuff lying about , I mean if people use it
to lube their chains then surely its good for cables right?
Or will it be better to use some new stuff since used oil is 'used' and thus lacks the
additives found in new oil.
Gear oil? ...
I was using the spray stuff but it has proven 'ineffective' being that all of the control cables are
worn through and are about to snap (though I have parts coming) , and I've been lubing them every
4 months. So I went and bought myself a hydraulic twist type cable lubing device as the empty spark
plug holder with a hold in the bottom has proved...unreliable...
I don't want to be stuck in the middle of nowhere with a snapped cable, sure I can bodge it back
and sure I can ride gearless but better to prevent it than curing it right?
As well as this what do you use to protect the ends which are invariably exposed ie on the clutch
and where the cables go onto the carbs .....if you have carbs. I tended to use GT85 the stuff with PTE
whatever that happens to be.
Any thoughts?
