I read an interesting article in this months Bike mag last night.

They were commenting on how the French are now trying to combat speeding on their roads.

The bad news for us Brits taking a trip over there is that they can now issue on the spot fines of £500 and if you can't pay they can impound your bike until you can.

They have also approached the government asking for access to our driver records. This means that, where in the past you might get a bit of a hefty fine for silly speeds, you would also incur points for any offence upon your return home.

This would be an absolute nightmare for anyone trying to appeal against any conviction. Not only from having to deal with French law and bureaucracy but also from a financial point of view.

The government has agreed to look at the proposal but has not agreed to it as yet. The French already have an agreement with the Swiss and also want one with the Germans, Dutch and Belgians.

Bike went on to say that this may not happen straight away but as we become more and more European more powers like this will be granted to member states. There is already a proposal for a single European driving license.

At least the French are more up front about the issue and say that it is for the revenue. Something our own government won't admit with our "Safety Cameras".

I wouldn't be suprised if the british government paid them commission Laughing

The british government in general is just out for us much cash as they can get, I believe that in the not so distant future there will be a revolution against them and all hell will break loose.

The way I see it, is if EVERYONE opposes the government then no matter how many police they have, the law will not be fulfilled and people will start to get away with everything.

I can't say that will be a good thing but I reckon it's going to happen in the next few years with all the shit money thieving laws the government invent.

Hi

the Dutch have been sending out demands for speeding fines to people visiting the Netherlands for years, and have a reputation for getting nasty about it.

Pity these scamera theives have not yet been brought to task for the lies they are spreading. The number who are claiming massive numbers of lives saved from cameras when the number of deaths have gone up is frightening.

All the best

Keith
