Going on strike?....

I cant find any cases or laws/matters on this, but I'm after info about going on strike without a union. AFAIK you can but can't be sacked until you come off strike, any info?

And are you an apprentice? If so you can't go on strike with a union, nevermind without one

They will advise you on the dispute that is maing you want to strike, and also on your rights if you do strike.

I'm not an apprentice Matt, and erm, it was "advice for a mate".

As it's a public forum and any people an see what's put, anything can bite you in the rear. I doubt I'll be working in such pace for much longer anyway. Teach them to screw with what they have.

I'm striking with my union at the beginning of november. All the lads are going to the local all day, best way to spent it really.

I thought strikes were to show discontent for the conditions your employer is makeing you work in, and therefore the usual demonstration outside the workplace is, I wiould have thought, better publicity for your cause than just having a jolly down the pub?

Not really in the spirit of industrial action.

No at my place you go on strike and just don't come to work. You wouldn't be allowed to stand outside of my work because it's a government building and there's security rules. So pub it is.

In order to strike you need a majority of people who are in favour of industrial action (1 person on his own cannot strike)
You need a representative to approach the management and tell them of the displeasure in the workforce.
Your representative needs to lay out all grievances and present them in a fair and just manner with no name calling.
If the management refuse to see the representative then it is up to you to vote on paper to either strike or back down.
If the vote is to walk out you must inform management that untill they agree to talks constructive or otherwise you will remain out.
You are entitled to put 4 pickets outside the gates or in a public place to tell all others your grievances but not on Company property.
You can ask but not force others not to cross the picket line.
It is a long and hard road with very little recent success that you are about to embark upon

Best of luck but do not be the representative as he becomes a target of any managers

Public land would be cold. I'm all for letting the hardcore unionists strike. I just want an excuse to not go to work.
