Found this on ebay.

£25 Speed camera detector on ebay

I paid over £100 for mine.

I've had one on my last 3 bikes.

As well as the warning about speed cameras , it also has the trip record function. That logs speed and location. Thus you can view your journeys etc. (As well as top speed).

I wrote an interface (i'm a computer programmer for a living) to Google earth and also Autoroute. If anyone's interested PM me and i'll get you the code.

Worth £25 in my opinion.

Would you be able to view 2 journeys on a graph so you can compare and see where you can make up time?

It could be done, but i'd need to write the code for it.

The most the unit logs is once per minute and it logs the longitude, latitude, time and the current speed.

You can reduce the login period to once every few minutes and then you can literally view all journeys for months.

Wow thats quite tempting, sounds almost to cheap to be true?

How easy is it to install, much run on batteries or connects to the bike?

I'm assuming it doesn't tell you your speed at the time, just when connected to the computer?

Does it actually light up when it sees a camera? if so i'll buy one if you don't mind helping with the software you made?

Cheers

The installation is simple just 2 wires and just 1 amp.

The thing lights up red when you are near a speed camera and if you are going to fast and there's a speed camera it flashed red.

The speed etc, is shown when you do a download on your computer.

There's a bit you remove and there is a usb cable you connect to your computer.

How big is the unit? Would it fit on an unfaired bike or do you need to hide it behind a fairing?

i had one on my zx6r, and found it a great piece of kit.

it comes with software or its downloadable so you can update it etc online , as with all these camera detectors you need to pay for the license for the updates(its not too expensive for a lifetime membership, mine was transfered from the guy i bought it off)..
it only locates static cameras and could sometimes be annoying as it would pick up ones on other roads and shit me up but all in all i was happy.

size wise i would estimate it as about 15x8x3 (cm) so easily fits under a side panel/seat.

the only annoying thing is that the green light stays on ALL the time and can easily light up the whole of the underside of the screen on a dark night.

i found it brilliant when i had an indicated top speed of nearly 180 and so knew i had pushed it to 160ish, no one believed me till i plugged it in and it showed a top speed on that run of 161. made my mate with his shiny new gsxr600 nearly cry.. he used to cry more when i flew past him on my old machine.

No one said anything about a membership fee, well it's ordered so i'll have to wait and see, does anyone have the name of the software used by it?

That's gotta be great if an arsey copper with a brain got his hands on it, even better than a youtube video saying "look a me I'm doing 160".

They could never prove it was you or what bike, if it's found on your pc then it's still not sufficient data to get a prosecution, so anyone with one will be fine. Same way tomtoms keep max speed but a cop can't do a thing about it.

So it can fit under a side panel, but is there a long wire from the main unit to the LED? Could I fit it under the seat of my bike and still see the LED? That is the crux of the question really... Smile

Lifetime subscription is £20 , but you get the first year free. So maybe do it in a years time. One of mine is about 7 months out, but i'll get a lifetime sub next March/April when its back on the road. (The Zs hibernating now)

the thing is that the unit itself was under my seat and they are not looking under it, they then need the software to open it on a pc, and the correct usb connector.. also i only just bought it.

it was on when i got the bike but what i could tell it had a couple of wires powering it heading under the seat and then a couple coming off it all the way to the front under the tank and cable tied to the frame.

as for the google maps thing iirc you can open the software and theres a blue grid reference link which you click and it automatically opens a map. this was how i proved it was my bike as i had got trapped behind at a roundabout and had given it some beans to catch up going up the A1, date time everythin is stored.

what is amusing is that when you look at your average speed over a journey you get some really low numbers, 30's on journeys where you have been giving it some, but i suppose 3 minute stops at traffic lights etc adds up.

Here is the program I wrote for the interface from Inforad to Google Earth and also Autoroute , as requested by a few of you.

This program was written just for my use, so its not the most attractive program, however it does work.

Not sure. To be honest I don't think so.

I was actually thinking of writing some code to use the Pocket GPS world speed camera database. But haven't got round to doing it.

You can add your own locations and you can update its database by a simple internet connection.

Thats mainly what i wanted to know, so i can scour the camera partnership website for around here and stick the blackspots in it, so i dont forget to slow Laughing

and do eet, pocketgps database was quite good last time i used it. Thumbs Up
