Help!!! Bandit Question.

Hullo all, not been on alot lately but having a bit of a problem.

Before you ask i didnt wanna put this in workshop as i have zero electrical/mechanical knowledge and short of 'pull that out of there' i'd struggle to do alot with it. Also want some more general advice regarding ramps.

I have a 2007 Suzuki Bandit 650 and a Meta 357T alarm/immobiliser and what started as a minor annoyance now means its off the road.

I disengage the immobiliser and it beeps telling me its off but the fuel injection doesnt seem to kick back in. Before there would be a whirr (technical term) and then the needles would pop all the way round and then i could start the engine. The red 'FI' light continues to flash.

Manual says take it to a dealer... but i am struggling to find a way to get it to a garage.

Now there is a very short and sharp buzz from somwhere mid-bike when i disengage and the 'chec' stays on the digital display and when i hit the starter the engine doesnt turn over. The starter kicks in but never actually starts.

After 10-20 attempts it was working, but now its Kaput. I have a garage 200 miles away where i bought it before moving and they'll do it under warranty for free but i have no van and cant hire (21) easyily. I used to have a trailer but annoyingly got rid of it during the move.

So questions:

Can i get it working? is it easy? How?

If not when I get a van whats the best way to strap down and secure for a 200 mile journey?

And best way to get it into a van without a specific ramp? (not got any handy steps etc to use).

Any/all help much appreciated.

Tried charging the battery?

Your symptoms sound like a flat battery so might be nothing to do with the imobiliser thing.
If charging cures it you need investigate if there's a bad connection or failure of the charging system - which might require knowledgeable friend or garage help.

Have you got the manual and the keycode? You could try deactivating the alarm using the details in that.

I'd make sure the bike battery is charged as well and try arming it on and off a few times.

I take it you have got the run switch in the right place as that will stop the "whirr" kicking in. I've got the same alarm on my 1250 Bandit.

Might just be easier to get an Alarm fitter to come to you and check and service the Alarm - most dealers don't fit the Alarms themselves anyhow.

Its not necessarily a fault with your alarm/immobiliser, it could be a fault with the bike electronics.

I'd be inclined to say that you should push the garage to pick it up, if it's still under warrenty and its not working, it's not fit for the purpose it was sold for unless you installed the immobiliser yourself or another garage did. Imagie if this had happened on a long ride, the distance is irrelevant, it should be thier problem.

Returning from ideal land, the odds of them actually agreeing to this and picking it up are probably quite long and warrenties are usuallly as good as toilet paper but I would ring up the garage, explain the situation, state it is not fit for purpose and what do they suggest you do. Providing they fitted the alarm.

Other option is breakdown cover, register it to a different address, parents or something, push the bike round the corner, ring em up and ask them to take it to a garage.

Who fitted the alarm? The supplying dealer or an approved installer on behalf of either the dealer or yourself? Have you owned the bike from new?

If it is a fault with the bike electronics then I would guess that it will have a two year Suzuki warranty and any dealer should honour the warranty. If it is a fault with the Meta or installation then you may find that it is only covered by a 12 month warranty, but I would expect an installation issue to be rectified free of charge at this early stage regardless. You need to work out exactly where the fault lies.

My guess from what you have described is that one of three things has happened. Either the bike electronics are up the creek and need sorting, possibly the Meta alarm is playing up even though it sounds like it is behaving as it should by de-arming. Or lastly there is a bad connection where the alarm/immobiliser had been spliced into the wiring loom and the fuel injection isn't getting its power feed.

Battery is fine far as i know. Lights and all that are all same as always and the immobiliser does arm/disarm normally. I am inclined to think its the bikes electrics.

Had it from new and the dealer did install alarm, spoke to them and they'll replace/fix for free under warranty its just a case of getting it there.

I am luckyily moving house very soon so I will have a moving van headed back down south to the garage so i am fairly sure i can get it there.

So the main question now really - best way to secure in a van (as in best points to secure it to on the bike) and best way to position the bike etc.

In a van I find it's best to lean it against a side with lots of padding. i.e old sofa cushions or similar.

Then use decent quality ratchet tie downs to strap it to the side. and also a smaller one to keep the handle bars to one side.

If it's a trailer, you'd get it upright, compress the suspension and strap it down like that, preferably with R&G handlebar tie downs. They're the business.

I'd be tempted to get it to your local Suzuki dealer near to where you are rather than leave it for a while.
