Well, i'm going to be doing my CBt in a few weeks, and was looking for a decent first bike. I will be using it mainly for commuting to work, which is about a 5 mile jounrny.

I've looked around at bikes, but the only one that has really stood out to me, is the Honda CBR 125.

I can get a decent seond hand one for around 1500, but is it worth spending that much on my first bike, as i have no experience with them at all.

Good point.

I hear they're a decent bike, anyone here like to share their opinion on them?

They are fine, just overpriced. Find a bargain and it'll be a hoot on a 5 mile commute.

Be patient and keep looking for the right one. I only got mine cause it was cheap (stolen/recovered) - I was actually looking for a CG at the time.

Look for a standard one, female or mature owner if poss. Ones ragged and neglected/molested by teenagers are best avoided (as is the case with all bikes of course!)

Well first i bought an RS but had problems getting it running, i wish i still had it though. To me the CBR doesn't feel as special as the RS did, then again i never got to ride the RS Laughing But if its your first and you have never had a bike the CBR is perfect, easy to use, decent size, starts on the button every time as long as you keep up on regular maintenance you could probably sell it for what you bought it for. Laughing

The way i see it is you pay for what you get. Bought a £750 bike and ended up spending £300 on repairs then selling it. With the CBR £1250 for the bike and only money i spent so far was on brake fluid as i had an air lock. For your first bike i reckon £1500 should be the limit and as for dropping it while sitting on the CBR its hard to drop because of its size i accidentally ended up with both feet on the pegs when the bike was stopped but luckily managed not to drop it. If you drop it then...oh well, you live you learn!

I've got a cbr and I love it! Very Happy (Although, I can't wait till I've passed my test and can get a bigger bike)
Some guys find them a little small - sit on one and see how you feel.
Hunt around a bit, I got mine for £670 54 plate with 12months MOT! Perfect! They don't come around at that price everyday though. Hope you find something soon! Smile

In my opinion that is abit much to spend on a first bike especially as your only using it to go 5miles to work and back. I spent £530 on my city fly. I was looking for any 125'er bike for around £500. But if you like the bike that much to spend that much, then go for it. You might find a bike like a cg more comfy to sit on after a hard days work riding home. Might be less likely to get nicked then a cbr too, i duno.

Tbh, I had a CBR125 as my first bike...I regret it now. I could have saved money and just bought a CG125 (which I have now) and used the remainder to pass my full test.

This is the general advice given on these boards, and I retrospectively agree with it in full.

Image means nothing if you're only using the bike for commuting.

The CBR125 is a very good bike for a 1st time rider... I brought mine for £1000 with 11 K on the clock which included a rain conver, haynes manual, a sports tail pipe and heated hand grips, I really wanted a bike and after missing/seeing four bikes I just went for it. Also keeping in my budget.

I recently serviced it my self and only have spent £50 for a brake fulid change from Honda.

The engine in the CBR is solid and gives good power to pull away...

Its a medium size sports looking bike which gets you from a - b. But also has the power to have a little fun.

You can get auto trader to email you ever a new CBR is listed on their site, but you will need to create an account.

Also remeber that look for bike £150 more than your budget and you can always drop the price.

Depends on a few things. Is it fairly close by to you? Year, T&T, crash damaged etc? Any pics?

+1 for this.

Also, ditch the forum account your using, and make a new one with a proper name. You'll feel a right cnut in a years time when you've got a big bike and your name is still jayCBR125 Laughing
