The best way to go in anyones books is in your sleep.
It is better to go at 65 in your sleep than at 70 after a stroke at 65 and be spoon feed and in nappys for five years.
If your friend had a good life I would be happy for him.
Paddy.

I agree with this sentiment entirely.
My grandad was in a chair for 7 years, after being retired for 6 months, he had a massive stroke and it shut most of his brain down, he could move a bit and barely talk. He was 66 I think, and died when he was 72. I firmly believe he stopped eating on purpose.
One thing I now regret was not helping him to end it sooner, because I know that he was aware of everything. If ever I feel myself worrying about pointless fucking shit like work, or too much uni work, little family problems, anything that cant really be classed as serious, I think about him. And what he dealt with whilst we carried on our normal lives. And it breaks my fuckin' heart.
Am very sorry about your friend Hetzer, sounds like he meant a lot to you. The only plus, I suppose, is that he didnt suffer, and now doesnt have to deal with the credit crunch, the wiley bastard.
RIP. And wipe your make-up off your face Hetz, its running mate. ____________________ "Oh....it looks like Average Joe's is forfeiting the match!" - "Yeah, its a risky strategy but lets see if it pays off for 'em Cotton." |

Went through the same a the beginning of the year so I sorta know how you feel Hetzer. It's probably still pretty raw for you at the moment but months down the line when my phone springs into life still my immediate reaction is that it might be 'H' on the other end of the line.
Not a day goes by without me thinking about my pal and how I miss calling him to inform him that my accident proneness has struck again. Last week I purchased a cordless kettle and had to return it 'cos there was no base in the box. As a disgruntled customer I strode up to the counter moaning about the weather and the fact that I didn't particularly enjoy making a special journey purely due to the ineptitude of the store in question. The woman took the box from me, opened it up, removed the kettle, opened the lid and pulled out a plastic bag with the base contained in it.
He’d have loved that ‘un ____________________ Mellow Yellow

It's raw because I'm going to miss him like hell while I'm still here myself. I know he's 'up there' somewhere though. We used to do all-nighters talking about this shit, and other stuff. When I first met him (around eight years ago) he was afraid of dying but we talked that one through and his mind was put well at ease. The bastid is that he was in no way ill, even though he smoked like a chimney. I guess that's what makes it more of a shock, though it was certainly the best way for him and I take a lot of solace in that.
Well, it comes to us all and he certainly had a good innings.
Thanks for all the kind words chaps. ____________________ "There's the horizon! Ride hard, ride fast and cut down all who stand in your way!" |

All I can think to add to this is .
My Father is 65 next year...
But as people have said, if you could choose a way to go short of a heart attack in a brothel, then that could well be it. ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade

I always think of "Three Score and Ten" as the basic entitlement. Anything less than that seems like a jip. ____________________ "There's the horizon! Ride hard, ride fast and cut down all who stand in your way!" |

Ah, mortality
Sucks, eh.
Thing is, the deaths of our friends, painful though it is, actually eventually gives us some insight into the fact that we're not gonna live forever ourselves. Tiresome but true.
All that we can hope for is that when we peg it, other people grieve as heartbrokenly for us as we do for our loved ones.
