My brother wants one for crimbo.

It needs to be 4x50w and have facilities to plug in an Ipod and line out for an amp.

I don't know what to look for and don't wanna spend the earth,

I got a Panasonic one from Argos yesterday.

It's 4x50w, has an aux in on the front and two phono sockets at the back as well as the standard connectors.

Put it in the Polo last night, sounds good

£49.99 it cost, and if you spend over £50 you get a £5 gift voucher back, so you can do a 20p charity donation and have a £5 voucher too

Looks good, I would consider the Panasonic one though as it does seem to be a very good stereo...

I know nothing about them. As long as you can plug an MP3 player and an amp, it's fine, and no dodgey makes.

Sounds good, comes with a mounting cage and as I said you can get a £5 voucher back, in my local branch at least
