Xbox RRoD...

Just a question really. Do Microsoft actually know what the problem is? Also if they do, are there any consoles on the market that are thought to be exempt from the problem now? Just wondered cause I got my 360 in October and was just seeing if it is likely i'll get a RRoD, i'm half expecting to experience one in the future.

I just read that Microsoft have lost $1 billion over the whole RRoD issue.

One request, don't turn this into another boring Xbox 360 vs PS3 slanging match.

From what i heard microsoft pushed the 360 through hardware testing to get the console out asap to get a leg up over Sony. That's likely the real cause of the problem. Technically sure they know, that's why they extended the warranty and are willing to pay out for it all.

I hear the newer xbox's should be fine, Falcon and the newer Jasper i think they call them and there are ways to identify what your getting through the serial number i think.

I was the same as you, i bought mine just after all the hype about it and since i modded it there was no way i could cash in on that 3 year warranty. So i have a desk fan positioned to the side of it and when ever i play, it's on. Can only hope it's enough to stop it over heating and so far so good.

The RROD isn't just 1 fault though, you get the RROD when a fault occurs if you get what i mean.

Obviously MS know about it, whether they have done anything about it is a different matter
